Il Sydney Opera House fu costruito in seguito ad un concorso inter-
nazionale bandito nel 1956 e che vide vincere un giovane architetto danese
Jorn Utzon; i giudici rimasero talmente colpiti dalla sua originalità, da con-
vincersi che in un modo o nell’altro le difficoltà costruttive, sarebbero state
superate.
Il lavoro venne completato in 14 anni; la cima del tetto più alta si trova a 67,4
metri d’altezza, il suo profilo richiama le vele delle imbarcazioni presenti nella
baia di Sydney.
Il Sydney Opera House viene spesso definito l’ottava meraviglia del mondo.

The Sydney Opera House was built following an international competition
held in 1956, won by a young Danish architect, Jorn Utzon. The judges were stun-
ned by its originality and they were convinced that all builiding difficulties would
be overcome. The work was completed in 14 years.
The top of the roof is 67.4 mt. high and its profile remind the sails of the boats
in the bay of Sydney.
