The Federal Government is one of many
organizations that is realizing the necessity
of supportive workplaces designed around
the needs of people. A recent CoreNet Global
study of workplace productivity underlines
this shif in perspective. In the survey of
leaders from a broad range of industries,
61 percent said that real estate and facilities
have an impact on organizational productivity,
while 82 percent said they can increase
employee satisfaction.
Informed by studies such as this, the U.S. General
Services Administration has begun instituting initiatives
such as their Total Workplace Program, which helps
government agencies redesign their ofces to become
more efcient, efective, and sustainable.
At Herman Miller, we are taking a similar approach
to the design of our facilities. Recently, we set about
transforming our home, the Design Yard, into a
Living Ofce that would support an organization
of high-performing individuals and their networks.
In our vision, the Design Yard would enrich both
individuals and our business. It would bring people
closer together through a shared sense of community
and purpose, and encourage people to contribute
their most meaningful work.
Designing Our
Living Ofce
Herman Miller’s home is a
place where people are inspired
to do their best work.
