Creating a Community
on Campus
At Herman Miller, we are collaborating with the world’s leading
thinkers and designers to apply a greater understanding of
people—how we think, how we create, and how we interact—to
the design of learning environments that harness the innate
motivations of students and faculty. We believe these types
of environments help enable purpose and encourage everyone
to strive for high levels of achievement.
To create learning spaces that feel intuitive, we begin with
an understanding of what is fundamental to all humans—our
experiences and motivations. We then consider the unique
purpose, character, and activities of the individuals and groups
who inhabit these spaces and of the institutions that house them.
Building on this foundation, we work with you to create spaces
optimized to support learning and interaction—spaces that can
fluidly change as the needs of students, faculty, and the institution
evolve. The right mix of settings—from informal places to more
formal student and faculty spaces—can help you create a campus
that feels like a community worth belonging to.
