The project Gemini, and then Apollo, made the most significant developments in space diet. The domesticity of life in space was first truly considered,
when the United States space station Skylab was launched by NASA in 1974, equipped with a workshop for life science and physical science experiments. A step up, 1975 saw
the Apollo-Suyuz Test Project provided facilities for communal crew dining. Marking the first collaborative multinational cosmic union of sorts (between USA, Russia, Japan,
Europe and Canada), the ISS International Space Station was launched in the late 1990s. The station is however divided into two sections: the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS)
is operated by Russia, while the United States Orbital Segment (USOS) is run by the United States as well as many other nations. One of its missions is to test the spacecraft
systems and equipment required for possible future long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars. China is the only country owning and operating their own space station.
