The bell-shaped Ronde Pendant by Oliver Schick ref-
erences the traditional pendant lamp, a mainstay of the
1970s, but applies a modern twist. The opening at the top
is a unique feature of the design, with its overhanging collar
reminiscent of a jar, vase or amphora. Whereas conventional
pendant lamps direct light downwards, the Ronde Pendant
casts a gentle light above and below, illuminating both the
work surface and the space above it. The hand-turned alu-
minum lampshade has an ultra-matt lacquer that creates a
ceramic-like aesthetic. Appropriately, ‘ronde’ is the word for
‘round’ or ‘rotating’ in a number of languages, as well as the
name for the dance in which participants move in a circle.
