La radica di noce ferrarese
ha una storia particolare.
Nella zona di Ferrara i
noci venivano piantati nei
filari delle viti a sostegno
delle viti stesse. Per non
farli crescere troppo
questi noci venivano
capitozzati, il che facilitava
la formazione di gibbosità
sul tronco e di polloni al
piede. Attualmente questa
pratica è in disuso, e
quindi anche le relative
radiche sono sempre
più difficili da trovare. La
caratteristica della radica
di Noce Ferrarese è data
dal contrasto tra venature
più chiare e scure che
si incastrano in modo
contorto e variegato.
Anche le interruzioni
della radica, provocate
dall’incorporazione di
nodi e corteccia che
provocano buchi più o
meno pronunciati, sono un
elemento caratterizzante
da costituire particolare
pregio, non certo da
intendersi come difetti
della stessa. La preziosa
impiallacciatura enfatizza
la ricchezza dell’effetto
finale.
Versailles
Ferrara walnut burl has
an interesting history.
In the city of Ferrara the
walnut trees were first
planted in rows in the
vineyards as support for
the vines.
To stop them from
growing too tall the trees
were truncated, which
helped the formation of
protrusions on the trunk
and of root suckers. This
practice is now in disuse,
and so even the related
burls are increasingly
difficult to find.
The main characteristic
of Ferrara walnut burl
is the contrast between
the lighter and darker
veins which intertwine
crookedly and in ripples.
Even the breaks in the
burl, caused by the
incorporation of knots
and bark which leave
holes that can be small or
quite pronounced, are a
feature to be considered
of special worth, and
certainly not to be seen
as defects. The perfect
veneering emphasises
the richness of the final
effect.
