In recent years, our trips to Korea have opened a portal to its vibrant
contemporary culture. We’ve delved into its modern history and discovered
the Dansaekhwa art movement - a movement imbued with emotional
resonance and a relentless exploration of materials and universal meaning
through the cadence of repetition. It has served as a conduit, bridging
Korean artistic legacy with a spirit of innovation.
This resonated deeply with our own approach - a fusion of rigorous
research and experimentation - an ongoing dialogue between the artistic
gesture and the resulting work. Within the confines of this exhibition,
our lighting sculptures and calligraphy embark on a quest for harmony
between space, creative spirit and the very essence of material.
In our project, a fusion of light, glass, metal, and the serendipitous, we’ve
seized upon this enigmatic synergy between two distinct realms - the realm
of design and the realm of calligraphic expression.
1. Where does the inspiration from Korean art and calligraphy started for this
exhibition? Tell us about your relationship with these elements, and how they
guided you into thinking about the show.
