The artisanal manufacture of our collections is carried
out in cooperation with various communities in India,
with whom we maintain a consolidated social and
development commitment. Our artisan teams are
mostly female, and our goal is to help them achie-
ve economic independence through stable and
well-paid work. Thus, in 2010, our GAN Women’s
Unit was created in Uttar Pradesh by coordinating
a group of embroiderers who had lost their jobs
and by entrusting them to work on a new Patricia
Urquiola collection. The designer created Bandas
by considering the specific skills that these women
had, adapting her design to favor work-life balance.
Since then, designers working with GAN are encou-
raged to include embroidery, needlepoint or cro-
chet in their collections so that this unit can keep
growing. GAN collections thus benefit from the skills
of these artisans and they, in return, receive a fair
salary and gain decision power and independence.
