Black Portoro Gold vein marble, also known as “Black & Gold marble”, is the protagonist of this
Formaminima Limited Edition, dedicated to this evergreen luxurious decorative stone. Recalling the
ancient heritage of the Roman Empire, its quarries belong to the beautiful “Gulf of Poets” of
Portovenere in Liguria-Italy. This prestigious polychromatic marble was employed in the decoration
of Versailles Castle in France, and several other remarkable historical buildings across Europe,
throughout the 19th century. The velvety intense black background enriches and exalts the
chromatic contrasts of large yellow-gold veins which cross the slab. In this decor piece, a
hand-ground slab of crystal is layered to an extra-thin slab of solid Black Portoro marble, thanks to
an innovative experimental craft technique of surface layering. Lastly, a black mirror gradient is
applied by hand, creating a trompe-l'oeil effect of a fading marble surface. Together with a
