Messina managed the task in his own way: by
inventing an innovative project and a product
destined to change the market rules (and the
public’s style and taste preferences). Nathalie
was the result - the first modern textile bed was
born. And with it, Flou, the company that
produced it. The following years involved a lot
of hard work and satisfactory success. It was a
period of great intensity. The role-defining phase
of institutional appointments began: in 1994,
he was elected president of the Furniture trade
association Gruppo Mobili Assarredo. In 1998,
he was appointed as president of Assarredo, the
association of Federlegno-Arredo that groups the
Italian industries of furniture and
furnishings. He was a member of the Steering
Committee of Federlegno-Arredo, and held a
similar position on the Steering Committee of the
Industrial Confederation, Confindustria Monza
e Brianza. In 1999, he was president of Cosmit,
the organizing body of Milan’s annual
Salone Internazionale del Mobile. Thanks to his
innovative ideas (communication strategies,
organization of events across the city and not
just in the exhibition facilities), this laid down the
foundations for the extraordinary hotbed of taste
and culture that it is today. His personal success
went hand-in-hand with his business reputation.
To name just a few of the more important
episodes in his career: in 1997, he was nominated
‘Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica
Italiana’ (Officer of the Order of Merit of the
Italian Republic), in 2004 ADI (Italian Design
Association) presented him with the prestigious
‘Compasso d’Oro’ for lifetime achievements; in
2004, he was nominated ‘Commendatore Ordine
al Merito della Repubblica Italiana’ (Commander
of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic).

Messina affronta il compito a modo suo:
inventando un progetto inedito e un prodotto
destinato a cambiare le regole del mercato (e il
gusto del pubblico).
Nasce Nathalie, il primo letto tessile moderno.
E nasce Flou, l’azienda che lo produce.
Sono anni di molto lavoro e di successi.
Anni intensissimi. Poi arriva l’epoca degli
incarichi istituzionali: nel ’94 viene eletto
presidente del Gruppo Mobili Assarredo.
Nel ’98 diventa presidente di Assarredo,
l’associazione di Federlegno-Arredo che
raggruppa le industrie italiane del mobile e
dell’arredamento. È membro del Consiglio
direttivo di Giunta di Federlegno-Arredo,
e analogo ruolo riveste nel consiglio direttivo
di Confindustria Monza e Brianza.
E nel ’99 ha la presidenza del Cosmit,
il comitato organizzatore del Salone
Internazionale del Mobile di Milano, che anche
grazie alle sue idee (strategie di comunicazione,
creazione di eventi nella città e non solo in fiera)
diventa la straordinaria fucina di gusto e di
cultura che è oggi.
Il successo personale va di pari passo.
Per citare solo gli episodi di maggior spicco:
nel ’97 è nominato ‘Ufficiale Ordine al Merito
della Repubblica Italiana’, nel 2004 riceve da
ADI (Associazione Disegno Industriale) il
Compasso d’Oro alla carriera, nel 2004 è
nominato ‘Commendatore Ordine al Merito della
Repubblica Italiana’.
