VICO MAGISTRETTI
He is considered to be one of the leading exponents of design who exported Italian Home Design
around the world from the 50s onwards.
Vico Magistretti was an incomparable Maestro, thanks to the clean lines of his products. Despite
them being created for serial production, they always managed to maintain an extraordinary
purity of shape. His research continued across and greatly influenced the history of Italian design
over the years, and he is widely considered to be one of the Fathers of its success.
Magistretti was born in Milan on October 6th,1920. He graduated in Architecture in 1945, and
quickly joined his father’s studio. From 1948 onwards, he took part in various editions of the
Milan Triennale. In 1956, he was one of a group of creatives that founded ADI – The Industrial
Design Association.
From 1967, he was a member of the Academy San Luca in Rome.

(1979); Medaglia d’Oro SIAD (Society of Industrial Artists and Designers) (1986).
His works, designed for the most important Italian and international furniture companies, are on
display in Italy, across Europe, USA and Japan, and are included in the permanent collections of
the world’s most important design museums, including MoMA in New York with 12 of his pieces
exhibited.
He lectured at Milan’s Domus Academy; he was an Honorary Member and Honorary Visiting
