“Ghost viene provata da tutti,
imprenditore, progettisti, tecnici e operai:
tutto è riuscito bene, anche le inclinazioni
date dal disegno ed è così nata una
poltrona-non poltrona, inaspettatamente
comoda. […] La FIAM è stata bravissima
e con ciò ha dimostrato che potremo
anche fare automobili, oltre ad armadi,
letti e tutto ciò che fino ad oggi
non è mai stato, di vetro”, dice Cini Boeri
al momento della realizzazione
di questo chiaro sogno ad occhi aperti.
La soluzione finale della Ghost
è una “scultura abitabile”, costituita
da un’unica lastra di cristallo
dello spessore di 12 mm, tagliata
con tecnologia Paser (metodo di taglio
ad idrogetto sviluppato da FIAM nel 1982
per la produzione del tavolino Hydra
di Massimo Morozzi) e opportunamente
curvata con stampi dinamici.
Nel gennaio 1987 inizia la produzione
in serie che viene presentata al Salone
del Mobile di Milano, produzione
che continua ininterrottamente ancora
oggi e che viene celebrata durante
il Salone del Mobile 2017, festeggiando
un anniversario lungo 30 anni.
Il prodotto è un “pezzo di richiamo”,
un successo di immagine, presente
in molti musei di design nel mondo
e vincitore di numerosi premi: massima
espressione delle migliori intenzioni
dell’azienda, che rappresenta al meglio
tutte le caratteristiche di ricerca,
sviluppo, iconicità, come perfetta sintesi
di innovazione tra design e tecnologia,
tra estetica e tecnica. La complessità
produttiva non ha consentito una sua
imitazione e così la Ghost è oggi ancora
contemporanea nel linguaggio, tanto
moderno da risultare ormai classico,
quindi intramontabile.

that we could even make cars, wall units,
beds, and everything that has never been
glass until now’, says Cini Boeri at the time
of the realization of this clear daydream.
The final solution of Ghost is a ‘habitable
sculpture’, made by a single crystal plate
of 12 mm of thickness, cut with Paser
technology (method developed by FIAM
in 1982 for the production of the Hydra
table by Massimo Morozzi) and opportunely
curved with dynamic moulds.
The mass production began in January
1987, presented at the Milan Furniture Fair,
production that continues without
interruption even today and which
will be celebrated during the Milan Furniture
Fair 2017, celebrating the 30th anniversary.
The product is an ‘allure piece’, a success
of image, found in many design museums
in the world and winner of numerous awards:
maximum expression of the best intentions
of the company, it best represents
all the characteristics of research,
development, and iconicity, as perfect
synthesis of innovation between design
and technology, aesthetics and technique.
The production complexity has not allowed
imitations, and this made Ghost still
relevant today, so modern as to be now
considered a classic, thus everlasting.
