L’ipnotica percussività dei ritmi carioca avviene tramite
l’utilizzo di strumenti primordiali: le mani. Proprio per
omaggiare le mani degli schiavi neri, i primi percussionisti
brasiliani, capaci di “batucar” i tamburi e far danzare la
gente in una mescolanza di musica e religione, Batucada
sembra voler tenere la sorgente, preziosa fonte di luce, tra
due mani, celandola o rivelandola all’occorrenza.
The hypnotic percussiveness of the Carioca rhythms is achieved
with primordial instruments: the hands. To pay homage to the
hands of black slaves, the first Brazilian percussionists
who could “batucar” drums and make people dance in a mixture
of music and religion, Batucada seems to want to hold the
precious source of light between two hands, hiding it or
revealing it when needed.
