MULTISPOT BELUGA:
A WATERFALL IN
THE PRESTIGIOUS
MARIINSKY II THEATRE
OF ST. PETERSBURG
In the heart of St. Petersburg
(Russia), the Mariinsky II
Theatre officially opened. The
opening night gala, conducted
by the general director Valery
Gergiev, featured Placido
Domingo and the president of
Russia Vladimir Putin.
The new opera house is
connected to the historic
stage of Mariinsky Theatre,
which opened in 1860, through
a planned pedestrian bridge.
Mariinsky II is developed
on seven stories and three
underground levels, including
a main auditorium, a 200-seat
rooftop amphitheatre, a third-
floor lobby amphitheatre,
multiple rehearsal rooms and
production facilities for 2.500
people in staff.
Sparkling drops of Multispot
Beluga light up the huge lobby,
whereas Lumi Sfera light up
the second concert hall. The
architectural project was
conceived by Diamond Schmitt
Architects (Canada), whereas
KB VIPS of St. Petersburg
developed the structural
engineering study.
