Two live elements which experience endless metamorphoses
depending on the moment of the day, as the London-based stu-
dio United Design Architects managed to capture in the lounge
area of the hotel: “We wanted to reflect these beautiful, natural
and vibrantly changing colours as well as taking into account
Barcelona’s rich maritime history and the city’s social and playful
party reputation”.
The result is a design aiming to sharpen the sensory ability
of the guests from the very moment they cross the threshold of
reception and during their whole stay at the hotel. Thanks to the
cutting-edge combination of colours and selected materials, the
lounge mirrors the vibrant, bustling spirit of the cosmopolitan
city of Barcelona.
Blue, pink, purple, orange and indigo spill all over the fin
screens on the walls replicating a sea bottom where the corals
dream of octopuses, seahorses and ocean sunfishes. But not just
the colour palette helps create this sensation of deep sea; also the
organic shapes of the furniture evoke the plasticity and gaiety of
the reef, from the transparent side tables which seem to float in
the water stream like jellyfishes to the lamps recalling organ pipe
corals and the carpets unfolding their colours like gorgonians.
In the middle of it all, Nautica swings stand out with their
undulant rattan frame inspired by the reflections of sunlight on
the waves, sometimes resembling swaying weeds that move to
the rhythm of the tides. In the designers’ own words: “It is an
invitation to have fun with its movement and its design”. This
piece created by the Valencia-based studio MUT Design bursts
with plasticity in an endlessly flowing space, where materials,
textures and colours coexist in perfect symbiosis just like the
inhabitants of the reef.
Dos elementos vivos que experimentan infinitas metamorfosis
dependiendo del momento del día, tal y como quiso plasmar el
estudio londinense United Design Architects en la zona lounge
del hotel. Tal como explican, “queríamos reflejar estos bellos
colores, naturales y cambiantes, y al mismo tiempo recuperar la
rica historia marítima de Barcelona y su reputación como ciudad
sociable y festiva”.
El resultado es un diseño que trata de agudizar la capacidad
sensorial de los huéspedes desde el mismo momento en que
traspasan el umbral de la recepción y durante toda su estancia
en el hotel. Gracias a la vanguardista combinación de colores
y materiales escogidos, el lounge consigue capturar el carácter
vibrante y bullicioso de la Barcelona cosmopolita y abierta.
Azul, rosa, púrpura, naranja e índigo se vierten sobre las
pantallas de las paredes que reproducen un fondo marino
donde los corales sueñan pulpos, caballitos de mar y peces luna.
No sólo la paleta de color contribuye a crear esta sensación de
profundidad oceánica; también las formas orgánicas del mo-
biliario evocan la plasticidad y el colorido de un arrecife, desde
las mesitas transparentes que parecen flotar en la corriente
como medusas a las lámparas que recuerdan a corales tubu-
lares o las alfombras que despliegan sus colores como gorgonias.
En medio de todo ello, destacan los columpios Nautica, con
su estructura de rattan ondulante que se inspira en el reflejo
del sol sobre las olas y que a ratos se asemeja también a algas
cimbreantes que se agitan al ritmo de las mareas. En palabras de
los diseñadores: “Una invitación a divertirse con su movimiento
y su diseño”. Un diseño del estudio valenciano MUT Design que
rebosa plasticidad en un espacio que nunca deja de fluir, donde
materiales, texturas y colores conviven en perfecta simbiosis
como los habitantes del arrecife.
