At the end of the Barceloneta, at the very same edge of
the sea, the majestic W Hotel stands up still, a colossal,
sail-like figure 99 metres high. When the first sunrays
creep over the sea horizon and fall on the silvery glass
skin which envelopes its svelte silhouette, they burst
into a myriad of iridescent sparkles that pour again
over the undulant surface of the water, achieving the
perfect architectural dematerialization.
In constant dialogue with its surrounding natural
environment: thus it was conceived by its architect
Ricardo Bofill. But not just him; the team in charge
of its interior design turned also to this same envi-
ronment: “Our inspiration came from the theme of
‘sky and sea by day and night’. The W lounge benefits
from an iconic view of these two elements, coming
together on the edge of one of the most vibrant cities
in the world”.
Al final del paseo de la Barceloneta, al borde mismo
del mar, se yergue el majestuoso W Hotel, una colosal
figura con forma de vela de 99 metros de altura.
Cuando los primeros rayos del sol reptan sobre el
horizonte marino e inciden sobre la piel de vidrio
plateado que recubre su esbelta silueta estallan en
una miríada de destellos irisados que se derraman
sobre la superficie ondulante del agua, consiguiendo
la desmaterialización arquitectónica perfecta.
Así, en diálogo constante con el entorno natural
donde se enclava, fue como lo concibió su arquitecto,
Ricardo Bofill, y a este mismo entorno se remitieron los
responsables de su diseño interior: “Nuestra inspiración
surgió a partir del tema del cielo y el mar de día y de
noche. El hotel se beneficia de una panorámica icónica
de estos dos elementos, que se unen al borde de una
de las ciudades más vibrantes del mundo”.
