Generator Barcelona has become
famous because of its bird cage.
Despite all the hostels share elements identifying them as part
of the same hotel chain, each one has its own personality. In the
case of Generator Barcelona, this was achieved by rummaging
in the storehouse of local culture and thus “it was inspired by the
bustling, fashionable Gracia district”. Just like the neighbourhood
and the city, the hostel is an intricate mosaic where a vast number
of styles meet and coexist.
There are plentiful of nods to retro and kitsch. Design furni-
ture mixes with recycled objects. The jumble of paper lanterns,
specifically designed by the artist Julie Plottier as a tribute to the
Festa Major –Gracia’s annual festival–, get in a risky conjunction
with a motley colour palette that jumps from the vivid cement
tiles –despite their Hungarian origin, they are worthy heirs to
Gaudí’s spirit– to the stools and the sofas.
Aunque los diferentes hostales comparten elementos que per-
miten identificarlos como parte de una cadena, cada uno de ellos
tiene su propia personalidad. En el caso de Generator Barcelona,
esto se consigue rebuscando en el baúl de la cultura local, ya que
“se inspira en el bullicioso y popular barrio de Gracia”. A semejanza
del barrio y de la ciudad, el interior del hostal es un complejo
mosaico donde convergen y conviven infinidad de estilos.
Abundan los guiños a lo retro y las pinceladas kitsch. Los mue-
bles de diseño se mezclan con objetos reciclados. Un revoltijo de
linternas, diseñadas por la artista Julie Plottier como homenaje
a la Festa Major de Gracia, entra en arriesgada conjunción con la
abigarrada paleta de colores, que salta de las coloridas baldosas
de cemento que, aunque húngaras son dignas herederas del
espíritu gaudiniano, a los taburetes y sofás.
