Faithful to the memory of the place, Alfaro-Manrique interior
designers reinterpret “its classic language to create a contem-
porary hotel where both realities live together”. To this end, they
used noble materials, such as wood or porcelain which, beyond
its decorative function, also work, according to Emili Manrique,
“as an identity element connected to Valencian tradition”. As if a
living organism, it articulates the different spaces sliding under
the bed, climbing up to the headboards and crawling through
the terrace and bathroom floors.
If we must choose just one word to summarize the whole
project, it would be fusion: of tradition and avant-garde, of design
and handicraft. And so the main staircase with its forge banisters
and wooden handrail coexists with the bold mustard strokes of
some differentiating elements, while a refined eclecticism pre-
vails in the selection of furniture and local artists’ works, breaking
the continuum of the moderate colour-palette. Thus, Twins low
armchair by MUT Design, with its electrifying turquoise 3D mesh,
invades the interior space and creates a vanishing point in the
bedrooms, so soberly and geometrically arranged.
Undoubtedly the first floor of the building is a must see. Guests
will enjoy there of the lightsome Tôpic restaurant-bar with a view
to the Principal Theatre. The space is provided with large windows
and floor tiles following once again a geometric black-and-white
pattern in contrast to the colourful seats among which we find
Fontal armchairs in natural finish and beautiful green upholstery.
Just like the hotel, this rattan design by Oscar Tusquets brings
together the best of tradition and modernity.

reinterpretaron “el lenguaje clásico para ofrecer un hotel con-
temporáneo en el que conviven ambas realidades”. Para ello,
recurrieron a materiales nobles, como la madera o la cerámica
que, más allá de su papel decorativo, también funciona, según
Emili Manrique, “como elemento de identidad relacionado con
la tradición valenciana”. Como si fuera un organismo vivo, articula
los espacios deslizándose bajo la cama, trepando al cabecero o
reptando por el suelo de baños y terrazas.
Pero si hay una palabra que resuma el proyecto, esta es fusión.
De tradición y vanguardia, de diseño y artesanía. De este modo,
la gran escalera principal con su barandilla de forja y pasamanos
de madera convive con las atrevidas pinceladas de mostaza que
lucen algunos elementos diferenciales, mientras que un refinado
eclecticismo prevalece en la selección del mobiliario y las obras
de artistas locales, que rompen el continuum de la moderada
paleta de color. Así, el sillón bajo Twins, de MUT Design, con su
electrizante malla azul turquesa, invade el espacio interior y crea
un punto de fuga en las habitaciones, tan sobrias y geométricas.
Sin duda, es obligada la visita a la primera planta del edificio,
donde se halla el luminoso restaurante-bar Tôpic, con vistas al
Teatro Principal. En este espacio de amplios ventanales y suelos
nuevamente basados en patrones geométricos blancos y negros,
el toque de color lo ponen los asientos, entre los que se cuentan
los sillones Fontal en acabado natural y un bonito tapizado verde.
Un diseño en rattan de Oscar Tusquets que, como el hotel, aúna
lo mejor de la tradición y de la modernidad.
