Twins bridges the gap between
outdoor and indoor spaces.
Its opening in 1913, with its delicate canopies and impressive
ironwork doors, meant a landmark for the society of that age.
Ernest Hemingway was one of its most distinguished guests.
He loved bullfighting, the rice dishes of La Pepica and the sea.
Here he started writing his first novel, The Sun Also Rises. “I have
60.000 words”, he would post his father from the central Post
Office, right behind the hotel. He was not the only one. García
Lorca, Robert Cappa or Manolete also stayed here because of its
privileged location and exquisite service.
Such grounding would not save it from decline and bankrupt
and the hotel was closed down waiting for better times. Luckily
the wait was not long. In 2015 the hotel chain One Shot Hotels,
known for promoting unique hotels where design and patronage
become prominent, bought it and started the refurbishment
works hand in hand with Arqui-T and Alfaro-Manrique studio.
The renovation restored the façade’s original splendour but it
kept intact that varnish only time and lived events may give.
However, a radically modern heart was already beating under
the old skin and ribs.

e impresionantes puertas de forja, supuso un hito en aquel
tiempo. Ernest Hemingway fue uno de sus más distinguidos
huéspedes. Amante de los toros, de los arroces de la Pepica y del
mar, fue aquí donde empezó a escribir Fiesta, su primera novela.
“Tengo 60.000 palabras”, telegrafiaría a su padre desde la sede
de Correos, situada detrás del hotel. No fue el único. También
García Lorca, Robert Cappa o Manolete se alojaron aquí, por su
céntrica ubicación y exquisito servicio.
Tal bagaje no fue capaz de salvarlo del deterioro y la
bancarrota y hubo de cerrar a la espera de tiempos mejores.
Por suerte, la espera fue breve. En 2015, fue adquirido por la
cadena One Shot Hotels, conocida por impulsar hoteles únicos
en los que se apuesta por el diseño y el mecenazgo artístico, y
se pusieron en marcha las obras de rehabilitación, dirigidas por
Arqui-T y Alfaro-Manrique. La renovación devolvió su esplendor a
la fachada original, lo que le ha permitido conservar intacto ese
barniz que sólo el tiempo y los acontecimientos vividos pueden
otorgar, aunque bajo la piel y las viejas costillas late un corazón
radicalmente moderno.
