In Architettura si diffonde un gusto sempre più
eterogeneo, multiculturale, che non disdegna
l’ornamento e che fa del dettaglio tecnico ed estetico
una risorsa preziosa; contemporaneamente, però, la
tecnologia ci abitua ad un’interazione immateriale con
gli oggetti, con le interfacce touch fino alla domotica
vera e propria. Viviamo inoltre un periodo in cui
l’attenzione all’igiene dovuta all’emergenza sanitaria
rischia di accelerare il distacco dalla dimensione fisica
delle cose: in questo scenario come si colloca un oggetto
archetipo e quasi invariato nel tempo come la maniglia?
In architecture, an increasingly heterogeneous,
multicultural taste is becoming evident. It does not ignore
decoration and considers technical and aesthetic detail as
a precious resource.
However, at the same time, technology accustoms us to an
immaterial interaction with objects, with touch interfaces
and even domotics. We are also living in a time when
the focus on hygiene due to the health emergency risks
accelerating our detachment from the physical dimension
of things: in this scenario, how does an archetypal and
almost unchanged object such as the handle fit in?

Credo che passata la pandemia i rapporti umani resteranno
gli stessi di sempre. Tutto tornerà esattamente com’era.
Fondamentalmente le persone saranno le stesse di prima.
Avranno gli stessi desideri, le stesse ambizioni, le stesse
debolezze. Certamente alcuni processi già in corso verranno
accelerati, soprattutto un contrasto maggiore tra reale
e virtuale. Il nostro compito sarà quello di creare degli
ambienti e dei prodotti che rendano la realtà ancora più
affascinante ed attraente per evitare di sbandare verso
l’alienazione spinta da un uso non corretto delle tecnologie.

La maniglia è un oggetto unico e allo stesso tempo comune,
profondamente radicato nella nostra cultura; può raccontare
molto di un ambiente! A seconda dello stile e delle sue
caratteristiche, può conferirgli un’identità ben definita.
Che sia ammaccata, ornamentale, minimal o economica, la
maniglia è anche un simbolo sociale che demarca uno spazio.
E per tutti questi fattori, è esaltante decifrare e disegnare un
prodotto come questo.
Purtroppo, nell’era digitale, assistiamo a numerosi tentativi di
eliminare questo meraviglioso oggetto in favore di protesi in
cui sensori, fotocellule, elettronica e dati rimpiazzano i naturali
movimenti fisici con gestures artificiali... Trovo estremamente

I believe that once the pandemic is over, human relations will
remain the same as they have always been. Everything will go
back exactly as it was. Essentially, people will be the same as
before. They will have the same desires, the same ambitions,
the same vulnerabilities. Of course, some processes already
underway will be accelerated, notably a greater contrast
between the real and the virtual worlds. Our task will be to
create environments and products that make reality even more
fascinating and attractive, in order to avoid drifting towards
alienation driven by the incorrect use of technology.

The door handle is a singular and common object that is
deeply rooted in our cultures; it says a lot about an interior!
Depending on its style and design, it gives a place a real
identity.
Dented, ornamental, minimal or cheap, the door handle is also
a social symbol that signs a space.
And for all these reasons, it is exciting to decipher this object
and to design it.
Sadly, in the digital age, there are all sorts of attempts to
replace this beautiful object with prostheses where digital
action replaces the gesture with the help of sensors, cells,
electronics, data... In my opinion, there is nothing more
