momenti “bui”, alcune decorazioni in ceramica furono
rubate. L’allora guardiano dell’isola si barricò all’interno
della villa centrale per proteggerla e la maggior parte dei
decori venne preservata. “L’arcipelago è sempre stato difeso
dai
guardiani.
Una
volta
stavano lì isolati e potevano
passare anche un intero mese
senza vedere nessuno. Erano
un tutt’uno con l’isola”.
Dopo il 1993, anno della
morte di Nureyev, Li Galli
rimase
disabitata,
fino
a
quando fu rilevata da Giovanni
Russo che, prima in società, e
poi come unico proprietario,
ripristinò
il
passato
splendore. Subito dopo la
sua
acquisizione,
Russo
trovò
l’isola
abbandonata
a se stessa. Iniziò quindi
un recupero ambientale e
architettonico, con l’obiettivo
di
restituire
all’arcipelago
il suo valore. L’intervento
di Giovanni Russo è stato in
continuità con l’opera dei
suoi prestigiosi predecessori,
ma con la suggestione di una
nuova identità.
L’isola delle arti
Poco dopo il mio arrivo,
conosco di fronte alla villa
Nicoletta, moglie di Giovanni,
appassionata collezionista e
patron delle arti. È radiosa
ed elegante, in un completo
verde acqua. I suoi occhi sono
luminosi, vivaci; sono abituati
a riconoscere e a cogliere la bellezza nel mondo, ed è come se
la restituissero. Grazie alla visione di Giovanni e Nicoletta,
l’isola è oggi un grande laboratorio, dove la “creazione del
paesaggio” – per citare Le Corbusier – avviene in perfetta
sintonia con l’inserimento di opere d’arte e design e di

after its acquisition, Russo

began its environmental and
architectural
restoration,
with the intention of bringing
its original value back to
the
archipelago.
Giovanni
Russo’s intervention was in
continuity with the work of
his prestigious predecessors
but with the charm of a new
identity.
The island of the arts
Shortly after my arrival, in
front of the villa, I meet
Nicoletta, Giovanni’s wife,
a passionate collector and
patron of the arts. She is
radiant and elegant in a teal
suit. Her eyes are bright
and lively; they are used to
recognising
and
grasping
beauty in the world, and look as if they were reflecting it
back. Thanks to Giovanni and Nicoletta’s vision, the island is
now a large laboratory, where the “creation of the landscape”
- to quote Le Corbusier - takes place in perfect harmony with
the insertion of art and design works and timely architectural
