Il termine “standard” deriva dal francese antico estendart, che indica stendardo, insegna. Uno standard è una norma
accettata, un modello di riferimento a cui ci si uniforma perché sia ripetuto successivamente. Infatti, il progetto è il risultato
di ricerca tipologica e tecnologica. Un lavoro cominciato nel 1993 con il divano L’Homme et la Femme, che per la prima volta
introduceva le configurazioni variabili. La ricerca è proseguita esplorando sia nuovi materiali che la possibilità di modificare
l’assetto e la seduta attraverso semplici movimenti. Sono nati così i divani disegnati da Francesco Binfaré per Edra, come
l’On the Rocks, un componibile che consente grande libertà nella disposizione.
Standard è la sintesi di questo percorso.
The term “standard” comes from the old French estendart, which means flag, banner. Standard is an accepted rule, a model to repeat
in the future. In fact, this project is the result of typological and technological research that started with the couch L’Homme et la
Femme, in 1993, that introduced variable configurations for the first time. Research then went on, exploring both new materials and
opportunities of modifying arrangement and sitting through simple movements. New couches designed by Francesco Binfaré were
born along this path, like the On the Rocks, a sectional that allows plenty of freedom in arranging modules.
Standard is the synthesis of this research.
Le terme “Standard” dérive de l’ancien français estendard, qui désigne un drapeau, une bannière. Un standard est une
norme acceptée, un modèle de référence auquel on se réfère dans le futur pour le répéter. En fait, ce projet est le résultat
de recherche typologique et technique. Ce travail a commencé en 1993, avec l’Homme et la Femme, qui pour la première
fois introduit les configurations variables. La recherche se porsuit en explorant les nouveaux matériaux qui permettent de
modifier l’assise et la configuration à travers de simples mouvements. De cette recherche sont nés les canapés de Francesco
Binfaré pour Edra, comme le On the Rocks, un canapé modulaire qui permet une grande liberté dans les compositions.

Der Begriff “Standard” stammt aus dem altfranzösischen estendart, mit der Bedeutung Standarte, Zeichen. Ein Standard ist aber auch
eine allgemein akzeptierte Norm, ein Referenzmodell, nach dem man sich richtet, und auch in der Zukunft weiter folgt. Und dieses
Projekt ist tatsächlich das Ergebnis einer typologischen und technologischen Recherche. Ein Arbeitsprozess, der 1993 mit dem Sofa
L’Homme et La Femme begann, als zum ersten Mal variable Konfigurationen eingeführt wurden. Die Recherche ging weiter, sowohl
mit der Erprobung neuer Materialien als auch durch die Möglichkeit, durch einfachste Bewegungen den Aufbau und die Sitzfläche
zu verändern. So entstanden die von Francesco Binfaré für Edra entworfenen Sofas, wie das On the Rocks, ein Modularsystem, das
eine große Freiheit in der Anordnung der Elemente ermöglicht.
Standard ist die Synthese dieser Recherche.
