i sono luoghi dove il panorama cattura
ogni nostro senso insieme allo sguardo.
Sono paesaggi vivi che ci costringono a
godere della loro luce e dei loro colori, ad
assaporare i profumi, ad ascoltare i suoni
e anche a percepire la leggerezza dell’aria sulla pelle.
Così è la Costa Azzurra nel sud della Francia, un affaccio
sul Mediterraneo fatto di mare, luce, vento e fragranze
inconfondibili.

Somerset Maugham, che nella villa La Mauresque di
Cap Ferrat trascorse molti anni della sua avventurosa
esistenza, amava descrivere quel rifugio svelando
che “qui la vista è così insopportabilmente bella da
esser costretto a farmi murare la finestra dello studio
per riuscire a continuare a scrivere”. Esagerazioni
d’autore, ma davvero Maugham lavorava in una stanza
al primo piano, seduto alla sua scrivania saggiamente
posta per guardare una parete cieca e rivolgendo le
spalle alla grande finestra con un irresistibile affaccio
sul Mediterraneo.
La vista su una delle riviere più belle del mondo ha
conquistato anche i proprietari della casa raccontata
in queste pagine, immaginata e costruita per godere
appieno di un magnifico scorcio panoramico sulla
Costa Azzurra e perdersi nel suo paesaggio. E così, in
un parco di 7.500 metri quadrati, nella lussureggiante
vegetazione mediterranea e all’ombra di una maestosa
roccia sedimentaria che caratterizza i promontori di
questo tratto di costa, è nato un complesso residenziale
composto da una villa incastonata nella parete rocciosa,
quattro piccole dependance distribuite lungo i terrazzamenti
del giardino e una piscina dotata di pool house.

here are places in which, together with
our gaze, the panorama captures all our
senses. Living landscapes that urge us to
enjoy their light and colour, savour their
perfumes, hear their sounds and feel the
touch of their air on our skin. Côte d’Azur in the
south of France is a place like this, a balcony onto
the Mediterranean with its light, wind and sea and its
unmistakable scents.
British writer William Somerset Maugham, who spent
several years of his adventurous existence in Villa La
Mauresque in Cap Ferrat, loved to describe his refuge
there revealing that “the view here is so unbearably
beautiful I was forced to have my studio window
bricked up in order to continue writing”. Maugham
uses literary exaggeration, but he really did work in a
first floor room, sitting at a desk wisely placed to look
towards an empty wall, his back turned to the large
window with its irresistible Mediterranean views.
It is these views, of one of the most beautiful Rivieras
in the world, that also captured the hearts of the owners
of the home described here, imagined and made to fully
enjoy the magnificent Côte d’Azur panoramas and lose
oneself in its landscapes. Surrounded by luxuriant
Mediterranean vegetation, and standing in the shadow
of the majestic sedimentary rock that is typical of the
promontories on this stretch of coast, a residence
has been created in a 7,500 m2 garden, consisting of
a villa set into the rock face, four smaller buildings
strung along a terraced garden and a swimming pool
with pool house.
