to scrivendo in una giornata di metà maggio del 2023.
È il tempo in cui qualcuno nel villaggio globale di cui
parlava McLuhan negli anni ’60 ha preso coscienza
della nostra unità sul pianeta e guardandosi alle spalle
vede che siamo entrati nel dopo. Il futuro è cambiato.
Per avere uno sviluppo concreto della propria attività, bisogna
fare i conti con la realtà dell’Antropocene e qui entrano in gioco i
visionari. C’è una facoltà che ci ha salvato finora dai cambiamenti
e le crisi che abbiamo affrontato nel corso della nostra esistenza
di specie. Si chiama immaginazione, è grazie a questa facoltà che
abbiamo immaginato gli strumenti che poi abbiamo realizzato,
dal chopper allo shuttle. Oggi è di questa facoltà che abbiamo
bisogno, la capacità di immaginare, di produrre visioni. Il pro-
gettista deve necessariamente essere un visionario, ha il compito
professionale di immaginare il futuro e immaginare è progettare.
Questa abitudine a pensare al futuro avvicina il lavoro del pro-
gettista all’attività del visionario, si potrebbe dire che ne è una
variante. Il visionario puro non si preoccupa della realizzazione
della propria visione, per il progettista invece si tratta del punto
di arrivo, ma la partenza, la visione, li accomuna. Può essere utile

looked behind them to see we are already in the aftermath.
The future has changed. For a business to concretely de-
velop today we must deal with the reality of the Anthropocene;
and this is where visionaries come into play. There is one faculty
that has saved us so far from the changes and crises we have fa-
ced in our existence as a species. It is called imagination and it
is thanks to this faculty that we have imagined the tools we then
created; from small chopper axes to the shuttle. Today we need
this faculty, this ability to imagine, to produce visions. Designers
must necessarily be visionary; they have a professional task to
imagine the future, and to imagine is to design. This habit, of
thinking about the future, brings the work of a designer closer
to the activity of a visionary: one could say it is a variation on the
theme. A pure visionary is not concerned with realising their vi-
sion, while for a designer this is the point of arrival: however what
unites them is the departure, the vision.
