a casa Il Faro si trova in una natura
incontaminata, nella macchia mediterranea,
sul promontorio di Capo Ferro in Sardegna
e gode della vista dell’omonimo faro. Venne
progettata circa venti anni fa dall’allora
proprietario, l’architetto Savin Couëlle, l’ultimo dei “dinosauri”
a cui si deve il prestigio architettonico della Costa Smeralda.
L’architetto l’aveva pensata per se stesso, studiandone ogni
minimo dettaglio ed esprimendo senza restrizioni le sue
preferenze funzionali ed estetiche. La costruzione racchiude
in sé tutti gli stilemi identifi cativi del suo percorso progettuale.
È concepita come una scultura abitabile.
Pur trattandosi di una piccola casa, comparata alle maestose
dimore progettate da Couëlle nella sua intensa attività, per
realizzarla ha messo in campo tutte le espressioni artistiche,
le tecniche edilizie e le lavorazioni elaborate nel corso dei
decenni, in connubio con maestri artigiani cresciuti sotto la
sua egida. L’assenza di angoli retti, l’attenzione ai dettagli, i
numerosi accorgimenti e la varietà di materiali, la creazione
armoniosa di vani e contenitori, fanno parte del desiderio di
celare e custodire per sorprendere poco a poco.

he Villa Il Faro (The Lighthouse) is located in an
unspoilt Mediterranean maquis on the Capo
Ferro promontory in Sardinia and enjoys the
view of the lighthouse from which it gets its
name. It was designed about twenty years
ago by its owner at that time, the architect Savin Couëlle, the
last of the “dinosaurs” to whom the architectural prestige of
Sardinia’s Emerald Coast is owed.
The architect designed it for himself, studying every small
detail and expressing his functional and aesthetic preferences
without restriction. The building encapsulates all the identifying
stylistic features of his design process. It is conceived as a
habitable sculpture.
Even though it is a small house compared to the majestic
dwellings Couëlle designed during his intense activity, he
used all the artistic expressions, building techniques and
craftsmanship developed over the decades to realise it,
in synergy with master craftsmen who grew up under his
aegis. The absence of right angles, the attention to detail,
the numerous expedients and variety of materials, and the
harmonious creation of compartments and containers, are

Dotato di un talento innato, Couëlle è cresciuto tra
l’intellighenzia letteraria ed artistica coltivata dalla tenera età
e il jet set internazionale, sviluppando l’attitudine alla bellezza
e all’eccellenza.
Superata la soglia dei novant’anni, fi no all’ultimo (2020) ha
mantenuto uno sguardo giudicatore, capace di trapassare
come un laser chiunque.
Savin Couëlle disegnava benissimo a mano libera,
possedeva un’incredibile percezione dello spazio e seguiva
assiduamente il cantiere, cambiando frequentemente il
progetto se la percezione visiva non lo soddisfaceva. Era
sempre alla ricerca della perfezione compositiva.
La casa Il Faro sembra composta da tanti elementi multi-
facciali che si intersecano e si susseguono in un saliscendi,
come in un lavoro cubista.
Nel soggiorno, le grandi fi nestre con persiane scorrevoli a
scomparsa si aprono sulla piscina a sud e, a nord, sul mare e
il faro. Queste aperture permettono, a chi si trovi all’esterno,
di attraversare la casa con lo sguardo. Couëlle era solito
disegnare fi nestre piccole, posizionate come cornici su un
paesaggio da cogliere mentre ci si sposta, piuttosto che

little. Gifted with an innate talent, Couëlle grew up between
the literary intelligentsia and artistic career cultivated from an
early age and the international jet set, developing an aptitude
for beauty and excellence.
Having passed the threshold of ninety years of age, until
the end (2020), he maintained a judging gaze, capable of
penetrating anyone like a laser, from the blue-blood to the
bricklayer.
Savin Couëlle drew very well freehand, possessed an
incredible perception of space and followed the construction
site assiduously, frequently changing the design if the visual
perception did not satisfy him. He was always striving for
perfection in composition.
Il Faro appears composed of many multi-faceted elements
that intersect and follow each other in an up-and-down
movement as in a cubist painting.
In the living room, large windows with retractable sliding
shutters open onto the swimming pool to the south and the
sea and lighthouse to the north. Moving around the outdoor
spaces, you can see right through the house thanks to these
