Totem Shelf,

Ingels,
fondatore di BIG, è la libreria totemica che ricorda
l’approccio progettuale degli edifici. Ha una struttura
autoportante con sistema girevole che permette un
comodo accesso sui quattro lati dell’espositore, E'
costituita da sei piani orizzontali in legno massello di
rovere di varie dimensioni, sovrapposti tra
loro
e
sostenuti da distanziali ad “x” che realizzano la struttura
completa. Ogni piano è diviso in quattro parti, così da
creare dei piccoli telai perfetti per deporre anche piccoli
oggetti. La libreria è pensata come un luogo magico e
aperto dove collezionare le proprie manie perpetue ed
abitudini quotidiane. “Crediamo che per affrontare le
sfide
odierne,
l’architettura
possa
proficuamente
trasferirsi in un campo che è stato in gran parte
inesplorato. Un’architettura utopica pragmatica che si
allontana dal fossilizzante pragmatismo di forme noiose e
dalle
idee
utopiche
naive
del
formalismo
digitale"
sottolinea Bjarke Ingels.
Totem, designed by architect Bjarke Ingels, founder of BIG,
is a totemic bookcase reminiscent of the design approach
of buildings. From a self-supporting structure with a swivel
system that allows convenient access on all four sides
of the display, Totem consists of six horizontal solid
oak shelves of various sizes, stacked one on top of the
other and supported by ‘x’ shaped spacers that make up
the complete structure. Each shelf is divided into four
parts to create small frames that are perfect for storing
even small objects. The bookcase is conceived as a
magical,
open
place
to
collect
one’s
perpetual
obsessions and daily habits. “We believe that to meet
today’s challenges, architecture can profitably move into
a field that has been largely unexplored. A pragmatic
utopian architecture that moves away from the frozen
pragmatism of boring forms and the naive utopian ideas
of digital formalism,” emphasizes Bjarke Ingels.
