Ubald Klug schuf eine der Ikonen
für de Sede: das DS-1025, besser
bekannt als «Terrazza», mit dem sich
je nach Anordnung aus mehreren
Sofas ein Berg oder ein Tal aus ge-
polstertem Leder zusammenfügen
lässt. Das Werk des seit 1966 in
Paris wohnhaften Zürcher Archi-
tekten und Designers, der auch als
Bildhauer arbeitete, durchziehen
die stete Suche und das neue Ent-
decken von Erscheinungsformen.
So entstand für de Sede in den
1970er-Jahren auch das DS-800,
eine modulare Sitzgruppe in voll-
endeter Funktionalität und grossar-
tiger Ästhetik: eine kreative Antwort
auf unser Bedürfnis nach Entspan-
nung, ein Statement der Wohn-
kultur, das nun in einem Redesign
wiederum geometrische Motive mit
ornamentalen Anlehnungen vereint.
Das DS-800 wirkt als Einsitzer
sowie als miteinander kombinierbare
Sitzgruppe als einladende, schüt-
zende Hand. Mit seinen um 360°
rotierenden Sesseln sowie flexiblen
Rückenelement hat de Sede das
DS-800 zu einer einzigartigen
Skulptur entwickelt: Ein meister-
liches Revival ganz in der Philoso-
phie lebendiger Tradition.

Ubald Klug created one of the
icons for de Sede: DS 1025, better
known as “Terrazza,” in which,
depending on the arrangement,
multiple sofas can be combined to
form either a mountain or a valley
of upholstered leather. Permeating
the work by this Zurich-born ar-
chitect and designer who has lived
in Paris since 1966 and once also
worked as a sculptor, is the con-
stant search and fresh discovery
of appearances.
This is also how DS-800 came
into being for de Sede in the
1970s: a modular seating group
with consummate functionality
and tremendous esthetics: a cre-
ative response to our need to relax
and a statement of home decor,
that has now been redesigned to
combine geometric motifs with
ornamental references. Whether as
a single-seater or a seating group
of combinable elements, DS-800
acts as an inviting, protective
hand. With its 360° rotatable
armchair and a flexible backrest
element, de Sede has developed
DS-800 into a unique sculpture:
a masterful revival thoroughly
steeped in the philosophy of
living tradition.
