Over two floors and approximately 150 square
metres, this expansive concept store is right at
home in Vienna’s shopping environment and
you can’t help but direct your gaze towards its
expressive interior design. Oliver Klöss, director
shopfitting, points out: “We had a vision to
create an all-inclusive brand experience for
Thomas Sabo’s new “SABOTEUR” label via
a store and gallery that reflects the vision and
image of the brand.” It also features indivi-
dualist Swiss furniture design – the famous
DS-600.
To lend this unique cosmos surrounding SABO-
TEUR a balance of sustainability, mystique and
craftsmanship of the highest quality in its interior
as well, certain elements were needed. The
furniture should call on an avant-garde, almost
purist design language and be rounded off with
a particular aura. This is where de Sede co-
mes in. The challenge was to find furniture that
encapsulates SABOTEUR’s vision using timeless
design language while bringing the brilliance of
the craftsmanship into the spotlight.
With their rich history of leather workmanship
and constant drive to create sculptures uninflu-
enced by ephemeral trends, de Sede elegantly
interplayed these elements, both accommoda-
ting the requirements of the SABOTEUR team
and fusing together the DNA of both brands.
They decided on the bold design of the famous
DS-600, whose natural shape purposefully
breaks away from the conventions of typical
seating design and reflects SABOTEUR’s ambi-
tions, aiming to generate excitement.
Auf zwei Etagen und rund 150 Quadratmetern
fügt sich der grosse Concept Store stilsicher
in das Shopping-Ambiente der Wiener City
ein und weckt mit seinem ausdrucksstarken
Interior-Design auf ganz eigene Art und Weise
die Aufmerksamkeit der Menschen. Oliver
Klöss, Director Shopfitting, betont: «Unsere
Vision war es, für die neue Marke ‹SABOTEUR›
von Thomas Sabo mit einem Store und einer
Galerie eine ganzheitliche Brand Experience zu
kreieren, welche die Vision und das Image
der Marke widerspiegelt.» Mit dabei: ein Indi-
vidualist des Schweizer Möbeldesigns – das
berühmte DS-600.
Um diesem einzigartigen Kosmos rund um
SABOTEUR auch im Interior eine Balance aus
Nachhaltigkeit, Mystik und Handwerkskunst
von höchster Qualität zu verleihen, bedurfte
es besonderer Elemente. Das Möbel sollte
die avantgardistische, gar puristische Design-
sprache aufgreifen und durch eine besondere
Erscheinung abgerundet werden – hier kam
de Sede ins Spiel. Die Challenge bestand darin,
ein Möbel zu finden, das mit seiner zeitlosen
Designsprache die Vision von SABOTEUR auf-
greift und zugleich die handwerkliche Brillanz in
den Vordergrund stellt.
Mit der traditionsreichen Verarbeitung von
Leder und dem stetigen Antrieb, Skulpturen
zu erschaffen, die fern von kurzweiligen Trends
sind, bot de Sede jene feine Schnittstelle, die
nicht nur den Ansprüchen des SABOTEUR-
Teams entgegenkam, sondern auch die DNA
beider Brands verschmelzen liess. Die Ent-
scheidung fiel auf das mutige Design des
berühmten DS-600. Seine organische Form
bricht bewusst mit den Konventionen einer
herkömmlichen Sitzlandschaft – und spiegelt
die Ambitionen von SABOTEUR wider, gezielt
für Aufregung zu sorgen.
Oliver Klöss bekräftigt: «Wir kennen das
DS-600 seit langem, es ist ja schliesslich ein
Designklassiker und passt in seiner skulptu-
ralen und eigenständigen Erscheinung extrem
gut zu unserer DNA.» Wichtig war für das Team
rund um Thomas, Rita und Santiago Sabo,
dass die Hochwertigkeit der Materialien und
die exklusive Verarbeitung des Leders nicht nur
die hohen Ansprüche ihrer Kunden bedienen
würden, sondern parallel mit dem modularen
Auftreten des DS-600 auch die Individualität
und Flexibilität des gesamten Storekonzepts
nach aussen präsentiert würden.
de Sede traf exakt die Ansprüche der Gestal-
ter, einen Raum kunstvoll zu durchbrechen.
Oliver Klöss erzählt mit einem Lächeln, dass
es bei der Planung rund um das DS-600 keine
Hürden zu nehmen gab, denn die Vorbereitung
und Organisation verlief reibungslos und er-
leichterte den gesamten Prozess rund um die
Store-Eröffnung.
In der ersten Etage des neuen SABOTEUR
Stores fügt sich die de Sede Skulptur als krea-
tiv zeitlose Sitzlandschaft unauffällig und doch
wie ein ikonischer Eyecatcher in die Kunstga-
lerie ein. Als Sitzmöbel für Ausstellungen und
Events genutzt, bietet das DS-600 mit seiner
grossen Flexibilität einen hohen Wert in Bezug
auf unterschiedlichste Nutzungsansprüche.
Oliver Klöss corroborates this: “We’ve been
familiar with the DS-600 for a long time. After
all, it’s a design classic and fits in extremely well
with our brand in its sculptural and one-of-a-
kind appearance.” Two points were important
to the team, composed of Thomas, Rita and
Santiago Sabo. Firstly, that the quality of the
materials and unique leather processing would
meet the demanding requirements of its cus-
tomers and, secondly, that the individuality and
flexibility of the entire store concept be com-
municated to the world through the DS-600’s
modular nature.
de Sede satisfied the designers’ exact
demands in terms of breaking up a room in
an artful way. With a smile on his face,
Oliver Klöss explains that there weren’t any
hurdles to overcome with the planning for the
DS-600 as the preparation and organisation
went smoothly and simplified the entire process
surrounding the opening of the store.
On the first floor of the new SABOTEUR store,
de Sede’s sculpture seamlessly blends in as a
creatively timeless seating piece while at the
same time being an iconic eye-catcher in the
art gallery. The great flexibility of the DS-600
makes it an invaluable piece of seating furniture
for exhibitions and events, suitable for a wide
range of purposes.
