Als Katz Architecture Studio den Auftrag erhielt,
den neuen Store an der Staffelstrasse in Zürich
zu gestalten, galt es, den Look der Marke in ein
Interior zu transportieren, das ebenso ästhe-
tisch wie einladend ist. Fliessende Vorhänge
und helle Naturmaterialien wie Holz und Stein
bilden die Basis der Gestaltung. Als Eyecatcher
fungieren Keramikfliesen mit grünlich chan-
gierendem Finish, die an die portugiesischen
Wurzeln der Marke erinnern. Sie schmücken
einen Kubus, der mal als Präsentationsfläche,
mal als Umkleide fungiert – dies sorgt für eine
Atmosphäre der Ruhe und Entspannung.
Wie muss ein Sitzmöbel sein, damit es sich in
dieses Ambiente einfügt und gleichzeitig die
nötige Würze mitbringt?
Die Wahl von Innenarchitektin Esther Katz fiel
auf eine Ikone der Sitzkultur, kontraststark in
dunklem Leder: das DS-1025 von de Sede.
Die legendäre Skulptur von 1973 hatte bereits
in der Basler Boutique von Lamarel für Auf-
sehen gesorgt und kam daher auch bei der
Gestaltung des Zürcher Stores zum Zug. Mit
ihrer terrassenartigen Topographie greift sie die
natürliche Note des Stores auf und ist in ihrem
Auftreten gleichzeitig aufmerksamkeitsstark:
Dies schafft eine starke Präsenz und sorgt für
Struktur im Raum.
Neben der ikonischen Optik haben der modu-
lare Charakter des Möbels und das nachhaltige
Bekenntnis von de Sede die Innenarchitek-
tin ebenfalls überzeugt. Die Gestaltung der
Boutique in Zürich unterstreicht diese gemein-
same Ausrichtung besonders harmonisch: ein
«Match Made in Heaven» − mit einer Skulptur,
auf der man wie auf Wolken sitzt.
When Katz Studio was assigned the task of de-
signing the new store in Staffelstrasse in Zurich,
they had to convey the look of the brand in an
interior design that was as visually appealing as
it was inviting. Flowing curtains and light natural
materials like wood and stone form the basis
of the design. Ceramic tiles catch the eye with
their greenish iridescent finish, a nod to the
Portuguese roots of the brand. They adorn a
cube that is sometimes used as a display area
and others as a changing room, providing an
atmosphere of relaxation and calm.
What kind of seating would blend into this am-
bience and at the same time add the necessary
zest?
Interior designer Esther Katz opted for an icon of
the seating world: a highly contrasting piece in
dark leather – the DS-1025 by de Sede. The le-
gendary sculpture designed in 1973 had already
caused a sensation in Lamarel’s boutique in Ba-
sel and so was also given a chance in the Zurich
store. Shaped like mountain terraces, it takes on
the natural feel of the store and at the same time
is a real head-turner: its strong presence gives
structure to the room.
As well as its iconic appearance, the modular
nature of the furniture and de Sede’s commit-
ment to sustainability won over the interior
designer. The design of the boutique in Zurich
highlights this mutual alignment quite harmoni-
ously: a match made in heaven with a sculpture
that makes you feel like you’re sitting in the
clouds.
