De La Espada are committed to the preservation of Portugal’s ancestral craft
techniques, while seeking to redefine their relevance in a contemporary
context. At the De La Espada workshop on Portugal’s Silver Coast,
craftspeople specialising in woodworking and upholstery combine time-
honoured construction methods with thoughtful innovations. De La Espada
also partner with select artisan workshops whose work they highlight in their
products.
Collaborating with Fabricaal, De La Espada integrate ‘mantas alentejanas’
into their upholstery, helping to bring this woven textile, rich in history and
culture, into the 21st century.
