125 years of history serve to construct a fairly accurate profi le of readers. That’s how long
the New York Public Library has been lending its volumes to the citizens of this great city.
Even though the library is local, its lists show that reading preferences are universal
and transversal, and that most people like good books. Ah!, and that, luckily, children
are convinced users of public libraries. There’s still hope.
Most of the books have been circulating for decades. But one of them, which deals with
the adventures of a young magician –you may know it– indicates where the lists might
be going in the future
125 años de historia sirven para construir un perfi l bastante ajustado de los lectores.
Ese es el tiempo que lleva la New York Public Library (Biblioteca Pública de Nueva York)
prestando libros a los ciudadanos de la gran ciudad.
Aunque la biblioteca es local, su lista denota que los gustos de lectura son universales,
transversales y que a la mayoría les gustan los buenos libros. ¡Ah!, y que, por suerte, los
niños son usuarios convencidos de las bibliotecas públicas. Hay esperanza.
Gran número son libros que llevan acumulando préstamos durante décadas. Pero uno de
ellos, que trata de las aventuras de un joven mago –igual lo conocen–, denota por dónde
irán los tiros en las décadas venideras
