CARVED IN STONE

La expresión más básica de la creatividad del ser humano está en sus
manos. Lo que se hace con ellas es la expresión más directa de lo que
pasa por la mente.
Además, en Cosentino el origen de todo está en la piedra de mármol
Macael. Por eso tenía mucho sentido que la apelación a la base de la
creación pasase por ahí, por el bloque desnudo extraído de la tierra
donde la marca española tiene su origen.
Carved in Stone es una convocatoria lanzada por Cosentino en 2019, una
competición artística en la que se instaba a estudios de arquitectura y
diseño a soñar esculturas en piedra. Las propuestas se han inspirado en
una sola premisa: la vida en Marte.
A partir de ahí, cinco estudios británicos han sido seleccionados como
ganadores de Carved in Stone. Cartwright Pickard, Foster + Partners,
Hugh Broughton Architects, Ian Ritchie Architects y Tonkin Liu se han
encargado de idear cinco esculturas a partir de bloques de mármol
Macael de 500x500x500 mm.
La empresa almeriense Cuéllar Stone se ha encargado de tallar esas
ideas y convertirlas en cinco espectaculares esculturas que fueron
expuestas en el Cosentino City de Londres –bajo el paraguas del London
Design Festival 2019– y en el Cosentino City de Madrid –dentro de las
actividades propuestas por el Madrid Design Festival 2020–.
Man’s most basic creativity springs from his hands. What he does with
them is the most direct manifestation of what is passing through his
mind.
And at Cosentino, the origin of everything is in Macael marble. That’s
why it was logical that the basis for creation should be embodied in
that naked block of stone extracted from the place where the Spanish
brand originated.
Carved in Stone is an artistic competition launched by Cosentino in
2019: architecture and design studios are invited to dream up stone
sculptures. The proposals must be inspired by a single premise: life on
Mars.
Starting from there, five British studios have been selected as the
winners of Carved in Stone. Cartwright Pickard, Foster + Partners,
Hugh Broughton Architects, Ian Ritchie Architects and Tonkin Liu have
been commissioned to think up five sculptures out of Macael marble
blocks measuring 500x500x500mm.
The Cuéllar Stone firm in Almería hammered away at those ideas until
converting them into five spectacular sculptures that were exhibited at
Cosentino City in London –as part of the London Design Festival 2019–
and at Cosentino City in Madrid, among the activities of the Madrid
Design Festival 2020.
