OF WATER, LIGHT AND
DEKTON
The work of Benjamin Hubert, creative director of LAYER, always
implies a reflection about the aims of design and the relation between
objects and users.
The London designer has worked with Cosentino to create a physical
space that uses art as a factory of experiences. Raytrace is an
installation made with Dekton® and presented at the last Milan
Design Week, and as explained by Benjamin Hubert himself, with
a very clear objective. “We wanted to create a place in which to
spend a moment to be able to pause, think, reflect, smile. Simply to
be in a calm place for a while, and think about something pleasant,
contemplate and even meditate.”
For Benjamin Hubert the initial vision of the project was born from
the way architecture –manmade things– interacts with what is natural.
“We liked the idea of creating a relationship with nature. So we
thought about the world around us, about how nature interacts with
architecture, concretely with water.”
Cosentino visited the LAYER studio in London, and a short time later
the design team returned the visit to the Cosentino home office in
Spain. There they were able to see in detail the nature of the materials
and their production, and that was the basis for Benjamin Hubert’s

El diseñador londinense ha colaborado con Cosentino para generar
un espacio físico que utiliza el arte como una fábrica de experiencias.
Raytrace es una instalación fabricada con Dekton® y presentada en
la pasada Milano Design Week y, como explica el propio Benjamin
Hubert, tenía un propósito muy claro. “Quisimos crear un lugar donde
pasar un momento para poder detenerse, pensar, reflexionar, sonreír.
Simplemente estar en un sitio tranquilo durante un rato y pensar en
algo agradable, reflexionar e incluso meditar”.
Para Benjamin Hubert, la visión inicial del proyecto nació de cómo
interactúa la arquitectura, lo hecho por el hombre, con lo natural.
“Nos gustaba la idea de crear una relación con la naturaleza. Así
que pensamos en el mundo que nos rodea, en cómo la naturaleza
interactúa con la arquitectura y, en concreto, con el agua.
Cosentino visitó el estudio de LAYER en Londres y, poco después, el
equipo de diseñadores devolvió la visita a la central de Cosentino en
España. Allí conocieron al detalle la naturaleza de los materiales y
su producción, y de ahí partió el relato creativo de Benjamin Hubert.
