Proyectado en 1885 por
Joaquín de Rucoba, el
diseño del teatro sigue
los modelos neobarrocos
habituales en Europa
a finales del siglo xix,
adaptando la planta en
herradura a la compleja
forma del solar.
El templo construido en
estilo gótico, aunque con
añadidos renacentistas y
barrocos, es uno de los
más populares debido
a su ubicación junto al
mercado de la Ribera, el
Ayuntamiento y a uno de
los puentes sobre la ría.
Ubicada en pleno Casco
Viejo, la actual catedral
se empezó a construir a
finales del siglo xiv sobre
los restos de un templo
anterior arrasado en un
incendio. La fachada y
la torre son frutos de la
renovación del siglo xix.
The theater building
was designed in 1985
by Joaquín de Rucoba
on neo-Baroque models
habitual in Europe at
the end of the 19th
century, adapting the
horseshoe plan to the
site’s complex shape.
Erected in Gothic style
but showing Renaissance
and Baroque additions,
this building is a popular
destination due to its
location beside the
Ribera market, City Hall,
and one of the bridges
over the estuary.
Deep in the old quarter
stands this church which
began to go up late in
the 14th century, over
the remains of a temple
that fire had destroyed.
The facade and the
tower are fruits of a
19th-century renovation.
