The work of Candida Höfer, like that
of Andreas Gursky, Axel Hütte, or
Thomas Struth, is closely tied to the
Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the
teachings of Bernd and Hilla Becher.
The exhibition features large-format
interiors of libraries and corridors of
monasteries and Benedictine abbeys in
Austria, aside from a photograph of Linz
State Theater. The absence of human
figures makes the architecture stand out
even more, and the apparent austerity
of her images conceals a complex reading
of the buildings in relation to their
current uses and functions.
The prominent German
photographer Candida
Höfer (Eberswalde, 1944)
presents a solo exhibition
at Galería Helga de Alvear
in Madrid, where two
photographic projections
by the artist are shown
for the first time.
La obra de Höfer, como la de Andreas
Gursky, Axel Hütte o Thomas Struth,
se enmarca dentro de la tradición de
la Kunstakademie de Düsseldorf y las
enseñanzas de Bernd y Hilla Becher. La
exposición presenta en gran formato una
serie de interiores de bibliotecas y corredores
de monasterios y abadías benedictinas en
Austria, además de una imagen del Teatro
Estatal de Linz. La ausencia de la figura
humana provoca un mayor protagonismo de
la arquitectura y la aparente austeridad de
sus imágenes encierra una compleja lectura
de los edificios en relación con sus usos y
funciones actuales.
