FIVE FAMILIES, FIVE WALTZES
Mónica Corvera’s creations emerges from
her absolute passion for jewellery, a field in
which she has worked professionally for ten
years. She has become what she describes
as a “spiller designer” and she not only
produces the sketches for her pieces, but
also brings them to life on her work bench.
Las creaciones de Mónica Corvera nacen de
su pasión absoluta por la joyería, a la que se
dedica de manera profesional desde hace
diez años. Se ha consolidado como lo que
se llama “una diseñadora de astillera” y de
sus manos no solo nacen los bocetos de
sus piezas, sino que también las realiza ella
misma en su mesa de trabajo.
“When Ulises told me ‘I want to make
jewellery from these samples, which are
decorative surfaces’, my mind began to
work. For me it was a challenge. Little by
little I cut out and reduced the material,
because you have to keep very much in
mind the weight and form. I think that we
got a great result, together with Ulises.
A fabulous result has been obtained.”
Mónica Corvera succeeded in
decontextualizing a rough material and
making it into a delicate accessory.
“The jewellery is inspired by the waltz. I
studied the origin of the dance, its steps
and each of the titles which inspired each
family. From there came the definitive
shapes.”
Some of the techniques used by the designer
were laminate, wire drawing, facing, forming,
soldering, crimping and texturing.
“The Cosentino pieces provided me the
color. They helped me to take, from that
color and those veins, the texture for the
metal. All is united. For every stoneI have
produced a tailor-made suit for each
stone.”
“Cuando Ulises me dijo ‘quiero hacer joyas a
partir de estas muestras que son superficies
decorativas’, mi cabeza empezó a trabajar.
Para mí fue un reto. Poco a poco fui
cortando el material y reduciéndolo, porque
hay que tener muy en cuenta el peso y la
forma. Creo que, de la mano de Ulises, se ha
llegado a un resultado fabuloso”.
Mónica Corvera ha logrado
descontextualizar una materia ruda y
convertirla en un delicado accesorio.
“Las joyas están inspiradas en el vals. Me
estudié la procedencia del baile, sus pasos y
cada uno de los títulos en los que se inspira
cada familia. De ahí salieron las formas
definitivas”.
Algunas de las técnicas utilizadas por la
diseñadora han sido el laminado, trefilado,
refrentado, conformado, soldado, engastado
y texturizado.
“Las piezas de Cosentino me han aportado
el color. Me han ayudado a sacar de ese
color y de esas vetas, la textura para el
metal. Todo va unido. A cada piedra le he
hecho su traje a medida”.
