When you enter the SOMMI in Los Angeles, the expe-
rience you feel is like being in a time capsule. “The
premise of the space is to give the feeling of weight-
lessness – believed by the Estudio Capella Garcia.
The intention was to provoke all your sensations with
great intensity, as your engulfed by the surroundings
that emanate not only with flavor, but sound, touch,
smell and of course sight without thinking about the
clock? / Hay algo de cápsula del tiempo en SOMNI
de Los Ángeles: “Ojalá el espacio dé esa sensación
de ingravidez -desean en el Estudio Capella García-,
pues está destinado a dejarse llevar por las sensa-
ciones, no solo el sabor, sino por el sonido, el tacto,
el olor y, cómo no, la vista. Todo a la vez con gran
intensidad, ¡y sin pensar en el reloj! Hay un único
proceso creativo y el talento es el hilo conductor”.
“Where the space use to accommodate forty people,
now it seats ten. The idea of having a truly inclusive
dining experience between chefs and diners, while
showcasing all that is within the space. “It’s about
getting every diner to have equal visibility of the
kitchen and the same level of comfort” / Donde antes
cabían cuarenta personas, hoy comen solo diez. La
idea es que tengan una experiencia realmente inclu-
siva de todo lo que allí se vive y en primera línea. “Se
trata de conseguir que todos los comensales tengan
igual visibilidad de la cocina y el mismo confort”.
The relationship between gastronomy design and
architecture is present in every corner of SOMNI, the
dissimilarity between noble wood and the Dekton
Fiord wall cladding highlights. Never abandoning
the idea of creation that José Andrés and Aitor
Zabala. The studio did not hesitate, when the time
came to integrate the minimalism of light, hardwood
and white fabric with Okuda San Miguel’s angular
and striking busts to give the place a surrealist and
futuristic touch. / La relación entre la gastronomía, el
diseño y la arquitectura está presente en cada rincón
de SOMNI, donde destaca la contraposición de la
madera noble con el revestimiento de Dekton Fiord.
Sin abandonar nunca el concepto que tienen José
Andrés y Aitor Zabala sobre la creación, el estudio no
dudó a la hora de integrar el minimalismo de la luz,
las maderas nobles y las telas blancas, con los bustos
angulosos y chillones de Okuda San Miguel para dar
al lugar un toque surrealista y futurista.
