The Drawings of Sergio García
Taking a sample of the most representative
works by the artist gives an understanding
of the three concepts that articulate his
research process. The first is based on
the use of multilinear narration to end
to the squared distribution of the page,
a strategy which favors a more agile,
dynamic reading. The second tries to
supersede the longstanding ‘book-format’;
for instance, the use of the poster gathers
the whole action of the plot in one single
drawing. Lastly, one of his leitmotifs is
the use of ‘story containers,’ stories within
a large figure, as he did in his recent
cover for The New Yorker.

devoted as a teacher
in Angoulême and in
his alma mater, the
University of Granada.

A partir de una muestra de los trabajos más
representativos del artista se pueden intuir
los tres conceptos que vertebran su proceso
de investigación. El primero se basa en
utilizar la narración multilineal para acabar
con la distribución cuadriculada de la
página, estrategia que favorece una lectura
más ágil y dinámica. El segundo trata de
acabar con el inveterado ‘formato-libro’;
por ejemplo, el uso del póster aglutina en
un solo dibujo toda la acción de la trama.
Por último, uno de sus leitmotivs es el uso
de los ‘contenedores de historias’, relatos
dentro de una gran figura, como el de su
reciente portada para The New Yorker.
