Poplar root wood.
Poplar root is a fine wood that can be found at the base of the tree, between the root and the trunk. It develops without needing much light, therefore it
is often found in sandy and marshy soils. It is a light colour wood, poorly resistant to moisture and it has a twisted appearance. In past centuries this wood
has been widely used to make neoclassical furniture, later in recent decades it has been completely forgotten by the masters-craftsmen. The designers of
Cornelio Cappellini have rediscovered this material and, through a “puzzle “ working technique, they have given it a new interpretation in a modern key. It
comes mainly from Eastern Europe and North America.
