(same use of granite\u002F\nmarble stone)\nProcedure of cutting handing and installation\nMaterials needed\nSeam setter, 4’ level, angle grinder \nwith diamond blade, caulk gun, acrylic  \ncaulk, shims, painter’s tape, measu-\nring tape, two-part epoxy for nonpo-\nrous applications, cardboard or similar \nmaterial for template (optional), proper \nprotective equipment, utility knife, jab \nsaw, pencil, granite sealer, granite cle-\naner, soft cloth.\nHow to cut a semi precious stone slab\n1. \nSet up stone on a stable work sur-\nface and clamp it down.\n2. \nMeasure and mark the cut line. To \nminimize chip-out, cover the cut \nline with blue tape. Remeasure \nand mark the tape.\n3. \nIf using a circular saw, blue-tape \nthe shoe of the saw to minimize \nthe risk of metalon-slab scra-\ntching.\n4. \nIf using a grinder DO NOT remove \nthe guard. A face shield is recom-\nmended.\n5. \nSet up a straightedge guide like a \nshoot board.\n6. \nUsing an angle grinder is a fre-\nehand-cut method.\n7. \nWhichever tool you use, keep the \ntool moving, but do not force the \ntool. This will minimize chip-out \nand deliver the cleanest cut. If the \ntool is really laboring, make the \ncut in two passes.\n8. \nSome installers back-cut the slab. \nIn other words, they make a 2-inch \nkerf at the finished end of the cut, \nso the slab doesn’t significantly \nchip or break upon completion of \nthe cut.\n9. \nUse an angle grinder with poli-\nshing pads to clean up the saw \nmarks on the cut edge and to \n“break” or micro-bevel the 90-de-\ngree cut edge to soften it. Pads \nstart at 50- grit and go up to 3000 \nor more depending on the smo-\nothness and sheen desired.\n10. The process is mainly the same \nto cut granite\u002Fmarble countertop \nfor a sink. To transition directions, \nholes are drilled in each corner of \nthe slab at the sink location and \nplunge cuts are necessary to en-\nter the slab surface.\nGeneral recommendations\nEmployers who are engaged in the \nhandling and storage of slabs must \nprevent caught-by, struckby, and\u002For \ncrushed-by hazards in their workplace. \nThe following are general recommen-\ndations:\n1. \nPre-plan work to identify the ha-\nzards, safe work practices, and \nthe equipment that will be used to \nperform the work safely.\n2. \nDevelop and implement safe sto-\nne slab handling procedures for \ntransporting, loading and unlo-\nading slabs from containers and \nstorage areas.\n3. \nProvide \nmechanical \nhandling \nequipment appropriate to the \ntask.\n4. \nInspect material handling equi-\npment before use to assure that \nit is in good condition. Defective \nequipment must be immediately \nreported and repaired or replaced \nbefore use.\n5. \nInstruct and train employees on \nthe proper material handling pro-\ncedures.\n6. \nEnsure that employees follow safe \nstone slab handing procedures.\nRecommendations for storage \nThe following recommendations will \nminimize the potential hazards asso-\nciated with “stone racks” and other \nstorage racks for storing stone slabs:\n1. \nDesign storage racks to withstand \nthe loads and forces imposed on \nthem.\n2. \nDesign a storage rack system to \nsecure slabs from shifting, sliding \nand collapsing, or provide secon-\ndary bracing or a restraint system \nto secure slabs from shifting, sli-\nding and collapsing.\n3. \nEnsure that the “slab racks” are \nproperly installed. Inspect each \ncomponent to ensure that poles \ncan be inserted into the holes.\n4. \nMaintain the rack, ensuring that \nno debris or other objects interfe-\nre with the insertion of the poles \nused with “slab racks.”\n5. \nDevelop and implement procedu-\nres for the placement and removal \nof slabs from the racks, keeping \nemployees out of danger zones.\n6. \nDo not allow employees to use \ndamaged storage racks.\n7. \nInspect the storage racks prior to \nloading. Ensure that the racks are \nproperly installed. Look for:\n• \nCracked welds;\n• \nCracked structural members;\n• \nDeformed \nor \nbent \nstructural \nmembers;\n• \nSplits in wooden supports;\n• \nAreas that show that the rack has \nbeen damaged or overloaded; \nand\n• \nPoles or other uprights not seated \nproperly in sockets or holes.\nThe following recommendations will \nminimize the potential hazards asso-\nciated with handling and transporting \nstone slabs:\n1. \nAvoid manual lifting of stone slabs \nwhere possible. Use mechani-\ncal aids (slab dollies, suction li-\nfts, scissor clamps, etc.). Lift only  \nloads that can be safely handled.\n2. \nUse the proper material handling \nequipment, such as an overhead \ncrane with appropriate approved \nattachments, or a forklift truck \nequipped with appropriate and \napproved boom attachments and \nlifting devices, or other equipment \nto assist with the unloading and \nloading of slabs.\n3. \nPlace the clamp on the secure \narea of the stone when moving \nand\u002For lifting a slab with a scis-\nsor clamp. Placing the clamp over \na weak vein can cause the stone \nto break and fall. Clamps should \nbe used only on grade “A” marble \nand other solid stones without \nflaws, open seams, or cracks.\n4. \nAssure that a suction cup is rated \nto lift these types of finishes when \nmoving unpolished slabs with a \nsuction cup lifter.\n5. \nDo not use scissor clamps on \nequipment operating on uneven \nsurfaces.\n6. \nNever stand under, near or in the \nfall shadow of a slab when mo-\nving it with an overhead crane. \nUse a tag line to control slabs \nbeing supported or moved while \nsuspended from a crane cable to \nprevent them from falling or top-\npling.\n7. \nAlways walk at the end of the slab. \nNever walk in the “fall shadow” \nof a slab. The “fall shadow” is the \narea on both sides of the slab \nwhere the slab could land and \ntopple if it were to fall.\n8. \nAssure that dollies used to move \nstone slabs are designed to sup-\nport the weight of the slab.\n9. \nHave employees walk on either \nend of the dolly to support the \nslab.\n10. Raise the load only as far as ne-\ncessary to clear the road surface \nor obstacles when using powered \nindustrial trucks\n11. Only handle loads within the rated \ncapacity of the truck when using \npowered industrial trucks.\n12. Remove the supports and bracing \nfrom the stone slab bundles insi-\nde shipping\u002Fstorage containers \nusing a sequence that does not \nallow for the other slabs to shift or \ncollapse.\nRecommendations for handling and in-house transport of stone slabs\n",10,{"image":54,"text":55,"number":56},"\u002Fmedia\u002Fimages\u002F23\u002F4e50257b17d8ccdc963f21fead687a-28a285a844.11.png","20\n21\nTile Installation Procedure\nA successful tile installation guarantees years of trouble-free performance and increases your home’s value and beauty.\nTo properly install tile follow the steps below:\n• Surface Preparation\nTile may be installed over most structurally-sound substrates. Make sure all surfaces to be tiled are cle-\nan, smooth, dry and free of wax, soap scum and grease. Any damaged, loose or uneven areas must be repai-\nred, patched, and leveled. Remove all moldings, trims, appliances, etc. which may interfere with the installation.  \nDoor jambs may be undercut for tiles to slip under.\n• \nLayout: When tiling walls, tubs, or shower areas, begin by finding the center point of the wall. Use a level to draw a \nplumb line in the center of the wall. Align a row of loose tiles across the bottom of the wall from the center line, leaving \nuniform joints between tiles.\n• \nSetting Tile: Variation of shade and texture is an inherent characteristic of tiles\u002Fslabs. For a blended effect, mix tiles \nfrom several cartons as you set. It is important to use the correct adhesive for a particular substrate (surface) in order \nto ensure a proper bond. Before setting your tiles, select the correct adhesive. Once you have chosen the proper adhe-\nsive or mortar, read all instructions and precautions on the package before using. Mix thin set or mortar according to \nthe directions on the package. Mix only enough to be used within 30 minutes. Pre-mixed wall tile adhesives can be ap-\nplied directly from the can without mixing. Determine the appropriate type of trowel (V or square-notch) and the right \nsize (depth of notches) for the type of tile you are setting. Refer to the setting material package for recommendations.\n• \nGrouting Joints: Before grouting joints, the tile should be well-set to prevent breaking the bond. Refer to the adhesive \npackage for specific time. Generally, you should wait about 24 hours before grouting. Remove all the spacers used \nfor setting. Determine the grout color of your choice. For best results, choose on the color-coordinates with the tile. \nRemove excess grout from the surface immediately with edge of float. Tilt float at a 90 degree angle and scrape it \ndiagonally across the tiles. Continue the process of compacting, then scraping off excess, until you have grouted for \napproximately 30 minutes or when the mixture begins to stiffen.\nFloor tiles adhesives are heavier and thicker than the wall tiles but you can use same adhesives for wall 1cm or 2cm slabs. \nThey are also more resilient to vertical pressure. It is therefore important that you go for a strong floor tile adhesive when \nbuying your flooring supplies. Tile adhesives are either in powder form or in the form of ready-mixed pastes. Powdered \nadhesives require mixing with water. They turn into a slurry, which provides a strong bond. They are suitable for floor tiles. \nOn the other hand, ready-mixed pastes are usable without any prior preparations. They serve best in securing wall tiles.\nProcedure of fixing tiles and slabs\nImportance of tile adhesives\nOptimum setting time of tile adhesive allows tiles to be easily adjusted within a certain period. It makes tiles being laid in \nline and gives the aesthetic final look. Applying tile adhesive with notched trowel provides full spread on the back of tiles \nand will reduce many problems like broken tiles esp. on the corner, water seeping, and stain or efflorescent. Full con-\ntact of the adhesive on tiles’ back and substrate provides strong bonding strength and long-lasting tiling work. A white \ncement mixture (for flooring) for tile installation requires many different things that need to be in a perfect ratio. It is not \nvery easy and also takes a lot of time. But Tile Adhesive, which is made especially for this purpose, comes completely \nprepared. Everything that needs to be mixed comes already mixed in the bag. This saves a lot of time and effort. Laying \ntiles by using tile adhesive with notched trowel requires less amount of material. The adhesive layer is a lot thinner than \nthe mixture of sand-cement, and this leads to a lighter load to the building structure. A good quality tile adhesive is a \npremixed cementbased powder that is easy to apply and requires no curing. This does away the curing need and saves \ntime in tiling work. The importance of tile adhesives in a nutshell-\n• \nFast and efficient\n• \nEasy to use, only mix with water\n• \nBetter bonding strength\n• \nApplicable on existing tiles, many special substrates like polished cement, dry wall system, etc.\n• \nThinner layer\n• \nDue to its low shrinkage property, it gives excellent adhesion.\n• \nIt is very flexible for accommodating the thermal and also physical movements.\n• \nIt requires almost no amount of curing and needs no mechanical or hacking ofthe surface.\n• \nThe floors where tile adhesive is applied can be usable only after 24 hours.\n•
