But also most decisions \nthat were made proved to be absolutely right.\nMr. Eiber, what are your memories when you think of the \nbeginnings of Molto Luce? \nI was very lucky to discover a niche in the market in the \nearly eighties: Molto Luce introduced Italian luminaire de-\nsign but also light as such to Austria! Architects, planners \nand interior designers soon took notice of us for the way \nwe understood products, but also light as such, and how \nwe conveyed our sense of light to the customers.\nHow did it go on after the promising start in the \n prosperous 1990ies? \nOur focus was then still on the Austrian market, which pro-\nvides us with a detailed knowledge of the market as well \nas a good overview of the many opportunities and fields of \nactivities. We developed a particular feeling for the spe-\ncific needs and requirements of different target groups \nand saw that the key to success was our focus on solu-\ntions. As a single-source supplier, we were in a good posi-\ntion: We knew how to solve problems and offered the per-\nfect support with our broad range of products. There were \ntwo more very special moments during that time for me: \nthe opening of our branch in Vienna as well as our first own \nproduct DADO. We did not know back then that both events \nwould pave the way to the realignment of the company to-\nwards an international manufacturer of design luminaires.\nFRITZ EIBER, founder of Molto \nLuce, talking about 40 years of \nlighting history\nWas the new millennium also a turning point for  \nMolto Luce?\nOf course! During that time, we developed from a mere \ndealer to a manufacturer. We started with the construc-\ntion of our production site in Weißkirchen nearby Wels, a \ncourageous and visible sign: I wanted Molto Luce to point \nthe way towards its own future, by developing its own new \nand successful luminaires. \nSuddenly the Austrian market became too small for us and \nwe took a look across the border to Bavaria. We started off \nwith a small team around Bernd Diesenberger, which also \nmanaged the German market from the local office in Wels. \nOur success has proven us right, so Molto Luce first found-\ned a small sales company in Germany and then opened its \nfirst subsidiary in Cologne, followed by other sites moving \nstep by step towards growth. We have been able to secure \nthis success in the past ten years. Molto Luce invested \na lot in buildings and the machine farm, was successful \nwith innovations and state-of-the-art illumination con-\ncepts and became renowned as a reliable project partner \nfor shop and retail, hotels, restaurants, offices and cor-\nporate buildings. He has gained vast experience in \nlighting at the development of the dipped headlights and \nfull laser beam of the BMW 7 and 4 Series and the Mercedes \nBenz GLC. In 2018, he changed to Molto Luce in  Weißkirchen \nand became an optics developer, designing the spotlight \nseries ARTIS, the office floor lamp CONCEPT and the dark \nreflector of the MOVA-S spotlight.\nFor Josef  Hechenberger the know-how and ex-\npertise are demanded on a daily basis, after all \nhe is responsible for at least fifteen new prod-\nuct families every year. Molto Luce products \nare famous for their technically highly complex \nand cutting-edge design with the most diverse \napplications. But before a luminaire goes into \nproduction, the product development team of \nthirty people has to overcome many obstacles.\nHow has the subject of optics arisen?  \nHow can one become an optics developer?\nThe focus of my master programme in Technical Physics \nwas optics and laser technology. I could make a lot of \nexperience in lens systems which I also explored for my \nmaster thesis to find the perfect laser setting. I received \nsome  offers for my doctoral programme and had to decide \nwhether to earn my PhD or to start a career in  economics. \nI went for the job and started as an optics developer in \n2016 at the company ZKW which produces spotlights, \namong others, for the car industry. Two years later I want-\ned a change and started my career at Molto Luce.\nWhat fascinates you most about optics?\nThe play of light and light control. Light is an emotional \nmatter - different light distributions create various light-\ning atmospheres. Optics plays an important role, in com-\nbination with the light source it defines the distribution of \nlight and has a big impact on the mood. The simulation and \ninterpretation of optics is just as fascinating. The moment \nwhen you see the light distribution of the designed optics \nthe first time in the dark room is the most exciting moment \nin my job. This is when you find out whether optics and \nlight effect are like in the simulation and if everything can \nbe realised as planned.\n \nWhat are the future challenges of optics?  \nAnd what is your focus in the department?\nThe construction rooms of luminaires are getting smaller \nand topics like energy efficiency and sustainability are \ngaining importance, also for materials. This has a big im-\npact on our work. The focus will be on innovation also in \nthe future, especially on quality, reliability, variation and \nflexibility, as this offers a great potential for differenti-\nation. In this way, we can also guarantee the production \nsite in Austria and make the best use of our strengths for \nour success. \nWhen was Molto Luce’s development department launched?\n \nProduct development at Molto Luce started in 2001. Six \nyears ago today’s CTO Wolfgang Brunmayr took over \nthe department and shaped it according to his ideas to \n become high level. This technological progress affect-\ned all our departments, so that the company has highly \n increased its know-how in the past twenty years. The \nfact that we have a very low fluctuation rate, helps a \nlot: in the past four years only two employees left the \n development department.\nWhich significance has development for the company?\nThe product development at the site in  Weißkirchen has \na very high significance and is often called the heart of \nMolto Luce. It has grown big. He designed a pendant lumi-\nnaire and wall-mounted luminaire for Molto Luce which \ncreates a soft lighting atmosphere without glare thanks \nto a silicone diffuser.\nMay we present: The youngest member of the Molto Luce \nfamily - a luminaire that reminds us of the good old times. \nDesigner Rainer Mutsch used felt, among other materials, \nwhich gives spaces a natural and alpine chalet character. \nThe various shades in stylish colours and materials offer a \nlot of creative freedom and can be adapted to the style of \nthe interior. \nSVEN also has a brother: FRANZ was developed in cooper-\nation with Gmundner Keramik, a traditional company from \n Upper Austria.
