Mal. Erzählt mal – was war \ndamals die Idee für Leya?\nCHRISTOPH KAHLEYSS (CK): Die Entwicklung von \nLeya basierte auf dem Gedanken eines lässigen  \nund knautschigen Möbels mit einem Hauch von \n70er-Jahre-Vintage und einer gewissen Eleganz.\nFF: Und woher kam die Idee? Das gängige Design zu \ndieser Zeit sah ja etwas anders aus.\nBIRGIT HOFFMANN (BH): Jörg Helwegs Gründungs-\nidee für Freifrau war es, Produkte zu entwickeln, \ndie femininer und eleganter sind, als es zu dieser \nZeit auf dem deutschen Markt üblich war. \nUnser Ansatz war es darüber hinaus, dass der \nStuhl nicht nur ergonomisch perfekt sein, sondern \nauch supergemütlich aussehen sollte. Schon  \nbeim Anblick sollte man Lust bekommen, sich in  \nden Stuhl zu setzen. Aus dieser Idee resultierte  \ndie weiche, faltige Sitzschale, die sich wie eine \nUmarmung anfühlt.\nCK: Freifrau steht ja für gemütliche Sitzmöbel mit \neleganten, weiblichen Formen. Wir betrachten den \nFREIFRAU (FF): It’s now ten years since you produced \nthe first design for the Leya chair. Tell us what the \nidea behind this model was.\nCHRISTOPH KAHLEYSS (CK): What we had in mind \nwhile developing Leya was a relaxed, laid back \npiece of furniture with a hint of the 1970s and a \ncertain elegance about it.\nFF: And where did this idea come from? Most designs \na decade back looked quite different. \nBIRGIT HOFFMANN (BH): When founding Freifrau, \nJörg Helweg’s concept was to develop pieces \nwhich were more feminine and more elegant than \nmost of the furniture on the German market at \nthat time. In addition to this, we wanted to make \nsure that the chair wasn’t just as comfortable  \nas possible, but also looked warm and inviting –  \nlooked like the kind of chair you wanted to  \nsit down in from the moment you saw it. Diesen Ansatz gab es zur Entstehungszeit \nvon Leya noch nicht.\nFF: Wann wusstet ihr: „Dieses Modell funktioniert.“? \nBH: Wir hatten von Anfang an ein großes Vertrauen. \nDas brauchten wir auch, denn bis sich Leya im Han­\ndel durchgesetzt hatte, dauerte es etwa 2 Jahre.\nFF: Heute ist Leya zu einer ganzen Modellfamilie  \nmit vielen Varianten gewachsen. Worauf habt ihr \nbei der Übertragung eures Grundentwurfs auf  \ndie Erweiterungen besonders geachtet?\nBH: Klar war: Die markante Silhouette muss in allen Vari­\nanten ablesbar sein. Außerdem muss natürlich der \nsuperweiche Sitzkomfort bei den anderen Modellen \nstimmen. Beim Wingback Chair haben wir eine \nstimmige Form für einen Ohrensessel entwickelt.\nFF: Im Jahr 2020 ist dann auch eine Outdoorversion, \nabgeleitet vom Leya­Design, entstanden: Leyasol. \nWie seid ihr da vorgegangen?\nCK: Wir hatten uns zunächst an der Idee aufgehängt, \ndas Design beizubehalten und es lediglich  \noutdoortauglich zu machen. Das war aber tech­\nnisch nicht möglich, weil sich durch die faltige \nOberfläche Wasser und Schmutz gesammelt hätten. \nAlso haben wir die Schale als einen Drahtkorb  \ngestaltet, in dem das Polster lose eingelegt wird. \nFF: Welches ist euer Lieblingsteil aus der Leya­ \nKollektion und wieso?\nCK: Für mich ist es der Armchair High mit Drehgestell. \nIch sitze gerne lange am Tisch und lese z. B. nach \ndem Essen. Dabei gefällt mir die Bequemlichkeit, \naber auch die gewisse Dynamik, mit der ich mich \ndurch das Drehgestell auf dem Stuhl bewegen kann.\nwe had to be, too, because it took around two \nyears for Leya to hold its own on the market.\nFF: Today, Leya has expanded into a whole product \nline with all sorts of models and variants. When  \nyou were designing additions to the Leya family, \nwhich aspects of the original were you particularly \ncareful to keep?  \nBH: It was obvious that the recognisable Leya silhouette  \nhad to be clearly visible in every variant. Another \nnon-negotiable is comfort: all Leya models have to  \noffer the same soft embrace. When we were  \ndesigning the Wingback Chair, we had to put a lot \nof thought into how the Leya shape would work.\nFF: In 2020, you developed an outdoor version: Leyasol.  \nHow did you approach this?\nCK: At first, we wanted to simply keep the existing \ndesign and make it outdoor-ready. As it turned \nout, though, that wasn’t actually doable because \nthe folds on the classic Leya models would have \ncollected water and dirt. So we had to think again –  \nand came up with the idea of making the seating \nshell into a wire basket into which the removable \ncover is laid. \nFF: \nWhat is your favourite piece from the Leya  \ncollection – and why?\nCK: For me, it’s the swivel frame Armchair High. A R T\nEva Jablonsky\nIn fast jeder Ecke des Hinterhofateliers von Eva Jablonsky \nsteht eine kleine Lichtquelle, es duftet nach Zedernholz \nmit fruchtigen Noten. Man merkt gleich: In diesem Raum \narbeitet jemand, der Räume mit all seinen Sinnen wahr-\nnimmt und sie ganzheitlich bespielen möchte. Es soll nicht \nausschließlich um ihre Werke gehen – es geht ums Woh-\nnen, darum, mit Kunst zu leben und sie zu integrieren. \nFür ein Shooting in Italien hatte Freifrau-Art-Direktorin \nBirgit Hoffmann einige Bilder der Künstlerin ausgeliehen,  \nworaufhin Eva sie höchstpersönlich von Berlin nach \nLemgo zu Freifrau brachte. In einer extra von ihrem Mann \nangefertigten Transportbox aus Holz. Für die Künstlerin \nein besonderer Moment, denn es war nicht immer klar, \ndass sie hauptberuflich malen würde.\nTucked away in a courtyard, there is hardly a corner, nook, \nor cranny in Eva Jablonsky’s studio that doesn’t have a \nlight of some kind or other – and everywhere, the fruity \nnotes of cedar wood pervade the air. From the moment \nyou enter, you know that someone is at work here who \nperceives spaces with all of her senses and wants to \nshape them in their entirety. For Eva Jablonsky, it’s not \njust about her art: it’s about living with art, about inte-\ngrating it into the home environment.\nHer relationship with Freifrau started when Art Director \nBirgit Hoffmann asked Eva if she would provide some \nof her pictures on loan for a photo shoot in Italy. And \nEva didn’t just say yes: she personally travelled across \nGermany from Berlin to Lemgo in order to deliver the \nEin Atelierbesuch bei \nA studio visit with\n",19,{"image":90,"text":91,"number":92},"\u002Fmedia\u002Fimages\u002Fb8\u002F6af80b9c978e58c667773ae38ac02a-28c68d9859.20.png","36\n„Ich habe Jura studiert bis zum ersten Staatsexamen – \ndas hat mir Spaß gemacht, aber ich habe mich immer in \nDesignmagazinen verlieren können und davon geträumt, \neinmal Teil dieser Welt zu sein“, erinnert sich Eva, als wir \nsie fragen, wie sie eigentlich zur Kunst gekommen ist.\nGemalt habe sie immer, erzählt sie weiter, aber während \ndes Studiums und auch bei ihrem Job in einer Kanzlei \nsei sie nie dazu gekommen. Irgendwann kam die Lust zu \nmalen zurück. Im ersten Schritt kaufte sie einige Mal­\nutensilien wie Leinwände, Pinsel und Farben. „Direkt an­ \nfangen konnte ich nicht. Ich habe gewartet, bis es sich \nrichtig anfühlt“, sagt Eva. Dass sie nicht nur einen Anfang \ngefunden hat, sondern auch ihr besonderes Gefühl für  \nFormen und Farben zum Ausdruck bringen kann, sieht \nman an den Kunstwerken, die heute die Wände ihres  \nAteliers füllen. Um ihre Kunst zu zeigen, fing Eva früh \nan, auf ihrem Instagramkanal @evajablonsky_art Bilder \nzu teilen, auf denen man auch heute noch sehen kann, \nwie sie auf dem Dachboden ihrer Wohnung den ersten \nPinselstrich setzte. „Ich hatte den ganzen riesigen Dach­\nboden des Hauses für mich. Das war toll! Ich stellte eine \nLeinwand auf und fing an – ganz für mich und in Ruhe“, \nerinnert sich die Künstlerin. Die Social­Media­Plattform \nnutzt sie in ihrem ganz eigenen Stil: Sie zeigt direkt den \nersten Entwurf eines Werkes, also nicht nur das Ergebnis. \nUnd sie lichtet eine ganze Wohnwelt ab, präsentiert das \nBild mit der Dekoration, die sie dazu arrangieren würde. \nEvas Werke fügen sich warm in den Raum ein und ziehen \ndie Aufmerksamkeit nicht sofort durch starke Farben  \noder aufregende Motive auf sich. Mit perfekter Geome­\ntrie und warmen Schwarz­ sowie Weißstufen wirken ihre \nBilder wie Ruhepausen für das Auge, die man sich in fast \njedem Raum vorstellen kann.\ncanvasses to us – using a wooden transport crate made \nespecially by her husband. For Eva, this was a special \nmoment: she hadn’t always been sure that she would \nbecome a professional artist.\n“I studied Law and did my first state examination,” she \nexplains, “and I enjoyed it. But I would also spend hours \nlost in design magazines and always dreamed of, one day, \nbeing a part of that world.”\nSo how did she end up becoming an artist? She’d always \npainted, she recalls, until she went to university and then \nstarted working as a solicitor. At some point, her desire \nto paint returned – strongly enough for her to go and \nbuy materials: “But I couldn’t just start painting again be-\ncause I didn’t know, well, where to start. So I waited until \nfelt right.” Eventually, though, she did manage to make a \nstart – and, indeed, to express a unique feel for form and \ncolour evident from the works on the walls of her studio. \nAs a way to show her art to the world, she quickly started \nusing an Instagram account: on @evajablonsky_art,  \nusers can find not only finished pictures but, frequently,  \nphotos of Eva starting them on a fresh canvas in her \nattic. “It was fantastic,” she says of her make-shift studio:  \n“I had the whole loft to myself.
