Then the top becomes \na lively, textured surface, at \ntimes deliberately imperfect, \nresting on a base made entirely \nof steel, machined and curved \nwith numerical control. The \ndesign of the structure is \ninspired by the graphic lines \nof the equilateral hyperbola, a \ngeometry that is both dynamic \nand rigorous, in strong contrast \nwith the marble or fused glass \ntop.
