CAP HORN
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
The Cap Horn is a Danish restaurant placed in one of the most
touristic places in Copenhagen, the Nyhavn area. The location
turns this restaurant into a great stop to be mesmerised by the
sweeping views and the energy behind the multiple canal boat
tours all over the city. Cap Horn was the first organic restaurant
in Denmark, but before this, it had another and very colourful
history. Cap Horn is exceptional for its charming interior and its
high-quality ingredients, most of which are organic. Specialities
include freshly caught fish, free-range lamb and steaks. Cap Horn
is open for both lunch and dinner, with the latter having the op-
tion to sit out on the cobbled quayside (with a blanket in case
of chilly winds) or inside Cap Horn’s historic, perfectly restored
premises, with its dark wood panelling and leather-backed seats.
Nyhavn is a historic area full of many beautiful buildings, and in
one of them, you will find Cap Horn. Nyhavn was built in the
1670s and was originally a busy commercial port where ships
from all over the world would dock. The area was packed with
sailors, pubs, and alehouses and it was the place where the world
famous children’s author Hans Christian Andersen lived for
most of his life. Today, Nyhavn is a popular spot for both Copenha-
geners and tourists who enjoy the relaxed atmosphere by the canal, jazz
music, drinks and the many different restaurants along the cobble stoned
street. Cap Horn is one of the few places in Nyhavn, which has kept its
original appearance. The old wooden floors, the fireplace, the different
chairs, and plates, as well as the curious knick-knacks here and there,
all have a story to tell and contribute to the special atmosphere of the
restaurant. The beautiful, old building, which used to be a hang-out for
thirsty sailors and women of easy virtue, was in the 1990’s transformed
into a restaurant with a focus on organic produce. Cap Horn has since
maintained this organic mindset and all of the ingredients are carefully
selected based on quality and with consideration for the country’s cli-
mate. Once you get in the Cap Horn, you may feel you are back to the
old times. The restaurant is also proud to say that there is a special area
where many happy couples were asked to marry. They call it the mar-
riage area. A very cosy corner next to the fireplace. In the 2nd floor, the
restaurant is the place where such marriages long parties happen. There
are even couples that get back to the restaurant to celebrate years of
being together.
On the first floor is a charming banqueting room with wooden
floors and small-paned windows. French doors divide this beauti-
ful room, which is frequently used for festive gatherings. In front
of Cap Horn is the lovely patio, where you can enjoy the view of
old wooden ships along with a delightful meal composed by the
skilled chefs. The restaurant is also prepared for hosting parties
and conferences, meetings and events for both small and larger
groups. The capacity is up to fifty guests. You can even put to-
gether your own party menu from the party menu material the
restaurant provides. Visiting the restaurant is the way you will
get the best dining offers in Copenhagen. Every day the chefs at
Cap Horn prepare dishes based on the seasonal offerings of fresh
produce. All of the ingredients must live up to a high standard
of quality and organic produce is preferred. All of the basic in-
gredients are organic and Cap Horn also has a large selection of
organic vegetables and meat. The coffee, tea and the majority
of the wine and beer selection also come from organic suppliers.
Besides being the first organic restaurant in town, the Cap Horn
is also related to the environmental issues, receiving every year
Green Piece conferences. In fact, they have Every Saturday and
