THE PRINCIPAL HOTEL
MADRID, SPAIN
The Principal Madrid, located in the heart of the Spanish capital, on
Gran Via more precisely, was inspired by fashion and lifestyle gurus
while celebrating Spanish historic heritage. The result is that of a
refined and timeless design. Housed in a 1917 Spanish Renaissance
style building, the hotel is in consonance with unique Art Nouveau
and Art Deco façades. The interiors, signed by designer Pilar Garcia
Neto and the team of the Barcelona-based design studio, Luzio, share
a deep connection with Spanish historical legacy, by preserving the
original high ceilings, stained glass windows, marble floors and the
ironwork of the building.
The hotel’s 76 rooms and suites display an elegance characterized by
muted colours and high-quality textiles, where a sophisticated chic
atmosphere is created, evocative of a 21st century Manhattan loft
meets British clubhouse. The Principal Madrid’s romantically round-
ed corner building spans seven floors and is crowned by a sprawling
400 sqm rooftop terrace, offering 360 degree panoramic views over
the city. With the sky nearly in reach, The Terraza garden is a lush
with beautiful trees, a fountain and an observation deck to take the
most out of these stunning views.
Spread over the top two floors, one can find Ático, a sublime sanc-
tuary where the gastronomy takes on the main stage. The Michelin
stars winner, chef Ramon Freixa drew the menu, offering very ap-
pealing courses. For starters, cold strawberry soup with agitated mim-
icry, followed by a carefully groomed salad with pods, papaya and
whitebait, among other choices. As a main course, one can challenge
their senses with peanut butter marinated with quinoa and seaweed,
for instance. As a dessert, a treat for the lickerish, 100% Chocolate.
The Principal Hotel offers an incredible wellbeing experience. The
concept surpasses the idea of a common spa experience. Having a
healthy lifestyle at heart, the Hotel takes on a holistic approach by
providing maps for guests who wish to jog among Madrid’s mon-
uments, a complete fitness room equipped by Technogym with
recommended workouts and a personal trainer available on request.
Moreover, one cannot miss out on the Wellness Suite. If one is look-
ing for being free from tension and anxiety, this is the place to be by
enjoying all kinds of massages and treatments.
For all of the above, this tasteful boutique hotel made its way as a
member of Design Hotels. For anyone who visits Madrid, the Princi-
pal is the obvious choice!
