KONG ARTHUR
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
When we knew we would be at Hotel Kong Arthur, we had no
idea about the surrounding area, and we can say that it was the be-
ginning of a dreamy experience. The image of a long street – Nørre
Søgade- side by side to the inner lake of Copenhagen called Sor-
tedams Sø transmits a serenity that is hard to describe. The cyclists
riding away through this long street seemed not having any trouble
IN mind and it really passed this kind of ‘hygge’ feeling, which is
known as the Danish perspective that the happiness is in the simple
things. At the beginning of Nørre Søgade, you are invaded by this
feeling without even noticing. You continue to walk and it is in
a small perpendicular street that you find the Hotel Kong Arthur.
And what an imposing façade, we must say. There was no margin
for mistakes: a visible sign where we could read ‘Kong Arthur’ in-
formed us that we were in the right place. We climbed up the little
stairs and we entered the main entrance hall: a charming oasis.
You feel immediately tempted to take a sit on the large sofas while
enjoying a cup of coffee or reading a book. It’s inspiring how a place
can be simultaneously an epithet to luxury, yet informal. Kong Ar-
thur is the proof that it can actually happen. In the first floor, the
hotel offers beautiful courtyards where you can discover unmatched
tranquility which is hard to find in modern cities. Although the aris-
tocratic name, the interior is not necessarily classic, it has a funny
knight’s armour welcoming you in the lobby. So, yes, you’ll feel that
medieval spirit but also a sense of modernity. As soon as we entered
the hotel we knew that the medieval spirit was there but with a
touch of refinement. Four buildings form the whole hotel, includ-
ing an 850 square meter spa, where you’ll be treated as a king or
queen: the area includes hot tub, sauna and fitness.
Also, various body treatments are available. Regarding the rooms,
there are a lot of options, comprehending a lot of sizes, depending
on your specific needs. What you might not know yet is that they
have a hidden penthouse that displays varying art exhibitions by
talented Danish contemporary artists. It can be found on the top-
most floor, right under the roof. What we loved the most about
Kong Arthur is that we could experience a sense of refinement away
from the buzz of the city. It was a quiet and peaceful moment. Fur-
thermore, we could count with a nice lobby lounge, an inviting bar,
conference facilities, spa, an excellent courtyard, here really wasn’t
anything missing. If you’re hungry, you can also discover its famous
restaurants with different flavours: The Italian La Rocca, the Span-
ish Pintxos and Japanese Sticks’n’Sushi. Kong Arthur is the right
option to enjoy a relaxed moment in Copenhagen.
