As soon as you walk through the enormous iron gates and
step into the magnificent lobby of genuine neo-classical
style building, you immediately feel as if you were “mov-
ing backwards in time” into the beginning of 19th centu-
ry. Gallery Park Hotel is located in a beautiful historical
building dated from 1875, which is protected by UNES-
CO as a World Heritage. Spirit of French elegance, luxury
antique furniture and extravagant designer décor – all of
these elements create a unique atmosphere of the 5-star
hotel in the heart of Riga, the capital of Latvia.
Restored in 2008, this guest a year later. 24-room luxury
hotel is a real heaven for empire style lovers. The interior
design of the Gallery Park Hotel has a strong influence by
seafarers–, since it was the residence of Latvia`s biggest
shipping company and part of Navy`s Baltic command
for many years. The bar inside is dedicated to this period
and has a collection of historical photos and some sailor
requisite.
Managers of the hotel have made an incredible job by col-
lecting dozens of original interior objects and expensive
antiques. For instance, in a luxury hall you can find gold
plating wallpapers, created with the same technology
from the beginning of 20th century; in the next room, in
the corner, you will recognize the antique piano or clavi-
chord, that have been restored by a musician to its original
playing quality; between the lobby and the lunchroom,
you will see an absolutely unique doorway, that was
bought in France and dates the same year as the whole
building. The truth is that every single interior object in
the Gallery Park Hotel has its own story, truly worth vis-
iting. So let’s start our design tour inside this “piece of art”
in the heart of Riga.
Once you enter, the reception area is resplendent with
carved oak furniture finished with green leather. The next
thing you see is the magnificent French floor-mounted
lanterns and Persian carpets, which are more than a centu-
ry old. Each of the guest rooms and suites on the 2nd and
3rd floors are decorated in the style of Napoleon lll, while
the 4th floor has a modern contemporary style featuring
such famous design objects as “Egg” and “Swan” chairs
(Arne Jacobsen), “Teddy Bear” chairs (Hans J. Wegners),
lamps designed by Poul Henningsen and tables (Isamu
Noguchi). The Royal and Imperial Suites are decorated
with original art objects and expensive antiques from
France, Denmark and Belgium. In addition, each room has
a panoramic view of the Kronvalda Park, the Art Museum
and famous Riga’s boulevards.
It’s already a fact that this hotel has plenty of amazing
stories to tell. So, if you are a fan of luxury design and
