EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH
Lorenza Luti
This year marks the 70th anniversary of Kartell,
the renowned design company that is one of the
biggest symbols of Italian design around the
world. Founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli but
now run by Claudio Luti, the brand tells its story
through a series of timeless but contemporary
design products. Lorenza Luti, daughter of the
brand’s CEO, also plays a significant role at
Kartell, as its Marketing and Retail Director.
CovetED had the chance to interview Lorenza
during Salone del Mobile 2019, to find out what’s
in store for the future of Kartell.
Lorenza takes great pride in Kartell, due to the brand’s ability to
innovate. Her favourite product is the Componibile cabinet, designed by
her grandmother, that has been on sale for over 50 years. “It’s still one of
the best sellers of the brand and very actual in today’s design. This year
we presented it with a bioplastic material so we gave a new life to it and
it’s, for sure, one of the projects I am most proud of”, she said.
The “A.I.” project with Philippe Starck was one of the highlights
of Salone del Mobile this year. Lorenza sees it as an advantage for
Kartell, since it makes the production process so much easier and
faster, making it able for the brand to deliver the products in a shorter
amount of time. According to Lorenza, Kartell and Starck are already
working on new projects together, with four new pieces of the Smart
Wood collection coming next year.
