EL PALACE HOTEL
BARCELONA, SPAIN
Situated in the center of Barcelona, just a few steps away from the
exclusive “Paseo de Gracia”, the historic Barrio Gotico and the famous
Las Ramblas, the silhouette of the Hotel El Palace is unmistakable. The
modernist stamp printed by the architect Eduard Ferrés i Puig in 1919
did not lose an iota of its elegance, which is reflected in its halls, rooms
and on the facade.
El Palace celebrates 100 years and retains its prestige as one of the best
hotels in Europe. Old school refinement and luxury permeates this
classic five-star joint.
From the moment of the Coveted team arrival, we’re met by valet’s with
top hats and escorted into a grand foyer with double staircase and odes
of lush reds and gold trim. The ‘Hall’, which serves as both lobby and
bar, is a riot of Versailles-style ornate furniture, oriental vases, hand-
painted wallpaper and gilt clocks, and the breakfast room, covered in
winter, goes for a monochromatic elegance, with oversized iron street
lamps, Greek statues and a small garden at one end.
Originally opened in 1919, the property has played host to endless
luminaries like Salvador Dalí, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank
Sinatra, Paul McCartney, amongst others. It should be noted tha
Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé composed ‘Barcelona’ in
the Palace Hotel. “
