This time around, CovetED went to Barcelona to experience the
distinguished Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I, one of the most prestigious
hotels in the city. In actuality, this exclusive hospitality design was
the masterpiece that granted the Spanish architect, Carlos Ferrater,
the National Prize for Architecture in 1993.
One will be amazed by the sense of comfort and luxury seen in
every division of the hotel. The Deluxe hotel features 432 elegant
guest rooms and suites, five permanent and seasonal restaurants and
lounges, 24 interior and exterior event spaces, including a lake area
and two outdoor swimming pools.
In 2015, the hotel started an ambitious renovation process successfully
lead by the prestigious London studio Richmond Design Hospitality,
lead by Terry McGillicuddy, where he created a bright and lively
atrium in keeping with the city’s Mediterranean culture. “This was
the objective,” explains McGillicuddy. “To give the hotel a soul, a
place within the city it’s in.”
